Owner description: This unique Florentine piazza is the center of the artisan quarter. Dominated by the last masterpiece of Brunelleschi, the Basilica of Santo Spirito, the square is home to little local markets and antique fairs.

Forget the stalls and the food... Just go up the few steps and go inside the church: is a quite place in comparison to other churches but is so beautiful! As usual there is great artworks inside but I did like the intimacy of the place and the chapels on the side that tell the story of the Florentine families that were around the church. One of the oldest family had its own passage to go to mass without being seen....

This was near the apartment where we were staying and it was always lively especially at night. We ate twice at the packed Trattoria La Casalinga but the other restaurants seemed full as well even the pizza place at the beginning of the street.

We preferred this side of the centre as it is much calmer than near ponte vecchio and the dumo. It has an array of bars and restaurants hidden up the little streets, as well as the actual square.
There are also lots of artisan craftsmen workshops dotted about that are interesting to look at.

We first visited the market on Thursday and the market was pretty pathetic. However on Sunday it was lively, full of interesting little stalls and had a much better atmosphere.

Came here expecting a large market but only a few stalls so a bit disappointing. However, there are some lovely looking shops all around the area, so have a look in those instead. I would have done if we'd had more time. Cathedral is quite beautiful inside but much like a lot of other stunning cathedrals in Florence!
