Clara was an amazing hostess. The rooms are great, the location wonderful and Clara's hospitality unending. She helped us find everything we wanted and even brought us ice and olive oil from her home. We included her for dinner our final night and had a wonderful evening. Thank you Clara!

Room Tip: Clara is a wealth of information and loves to share, but never imposes.

Could not have asked for a better place to stay in Florence. GREAT location- the Roman Gate is just down the street. GREAT service- the owner sat down with us for however much time we needed, led us to absolutely amazing places with her recommendations, and went above and beyond to take care of whatever we needed. The apartments themselves were really lovely, and its nice to have a kitchen to make breakfast in before going out for the day- much better than a hotel room!! We are already planning to go back and stay in these same apartments. Cannot say enough good things about this place- what a gem! I highly recommend it to anyone- friends, family, couples, or solo!

We had a really lovely stay here. The apartment was just what we had hoped for and everyone was most helpful. First impressions go along way and the warm welcome and instructions that we received were "first class". A place not to be forgotten and we hope to return one day soon. Many thanks to all for making our stay so memorable and happy.

We had a wonderful stay in Poggio Imperiale Apartments in Florence.
What a beautiful place!
The apartments had everything that we needed! Clara made our stay perfect! This place is exactly what you are looking for if you want a great vacation. Affordable, charming, a real home away from home.
We loved being so close to center yet far enough from the crowds. The apartments are right across from Porta Romana and close to the gates of the Boboli Gardens.
We will be back and will highly recommend the apartments to our friends.

Room Tip: we loved this place

I would NEVER stay here again. It was dreadful. We left after one horrible night.
Let me tell you why we left:
Given that there was a 7-day cancellation for this property, we assumed the apt would be ready for us. It was not. During our 45 minute ! check-in, Clara brought us towels, toilet paper, and a shower curtain. She showed us the laundry room (chaos) and how to operate the washer. The fridge door had a broken latch. The a/c unit, although it made noise, did not cool. Clara did respond to our message that the a/c unit was not cooling, and worked on the fridge door latch while waiting for the a/c technician. We waited, too, and waited for the 2nd repair person to arrive. After being assured the a/c unit was working, we left the apt for a short tour of the area, expecting the apt to be cool when we returned. It was not. We again messaged Clara that the a/c wasn't working, but received no response.
SO, what to do? Open the windows and try to sleep in the heat. Open windows meant street noise: cars, emergency sirens, people talking & people screaming! No window screens meant insects. No sleep. Sweat. Most unpleasant.
The lack of maintenance and cleaning was obvious: dirty floor, dirty dishes in the cupboard, mildew in the wedge of shower and peeling paint in the bathroom.
One expects challenges while traveling, but not at that price.
The next morning we were scheduled to meet Clara to arrange parking (an extra fee.) We explained why we would like to leave. She agreed, as a/c repair could not be guaranteed.
Clara did release us from an additional one night's fee for cancelling, but she made no adjustment for our experience. A reputable property would have adjusted the price. Since we had been required to pay for our anticipated 5-night stay IN ADVANCE, we felt we had no choice but to accept her terms at that point.
Booking.com was unable to obtain an adjustment even though the property did not meet its listing description. According to Booking.com customer service, we had the a/c on fan. We're not idiots--the remote control for the a/c unit is pretty simple. No response was given for our other problems with the property--Booking.com seemed uninterested in this customer's satisfaction.
Stay away from Poggio Imperiale Apts. There are many other choices in Florence.

Poggio-Imperiale-Apt, Owner at Poggio Imperiale Apartments, responded to this reviewResponded 30 July 2012

A few days ago we most regrettably received a threatening email from this client. If we did not make an adjustment for the only night we charged them - even though they were booked for 5 nights and we overrode our cancellation policy, they would post the above written review. At Poggio Imperiale Apartments we take great pride in our apartments and always strive to provide the highest quality service for our clients and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, they are not entitled to their own facts.

-FACT: The A/C unit was never out of order.

The A/C technician arrived 30 minutes after we had been informed of a possible problem, but he did not find anything wrong with the unit. Instead, he found the A/C remote control tampered with on both occasions he was called to check the A/C unit for the client. The client had mistakenly misused the remote control and turned off the "air conditioning mode" and put it on "fan mode".

When we left the apartment after the technician's visit, the A/C was working correctly.

The A/C unit was installed less than a year ago. It is the latest technology, very silent, very efficient and it has never failed.

The client sent us an email at 10:15pm that night telling us the A/C was not working again. The email was read at 7:00am the next morning.

We rushed immediately to the apartment at 7:30am but the apartment was closed and there was no answer from the client.

When the client finally appeared at 9:30am (for the appointment we had set regarding the parking) they said they wanted to leave. We had already called the technician but they did not want to wait and left. Once again the technician came and found the A/C on "fan mode" and the "air conditioning mode" switched off. We have a written report from the technician stating exactly this.

-FACT: The client arrived 1 hour earlier than the set appointment.

The published rules are for a 10:00am check out and a 3:00pm check in. The client asked by email to check in earlier, at 1:00pm, 2 hours earlier than the standard check in time. We allowed them to do so. However, they showed up not at 1:00pm but at 12:00pm... The apartment preparation, as you can well imagine, requires a certain amount of time because of all the necessary cleaning, checks and controls for utensils, appliances, linens, etc. We nonetheless welcomed the client and finished the preparations while showing them around the apartment, explaining to them how everything works and responding to their questions.

-FACT: There is no lack of maintenance.

The problem of maintenance so the client states, was never addressed during the client's stay. It was thrown into the mix of accusations only when they asked Booking.com to cancel the one night they were charged for their 5 night booking. We as stated earlier promptly and kindly overrode our cancellation policy and reimbursed them the 4 nights they abruptly cancelled.

We are dismayed by the client's threat and subsequent nonfactual review.
