By the end of the four days we spent at this lovely B&B, Edo and Celia were like family. Seriously, every recommendation in terms of restaurants/cafes and sights to see were perfect. It was clean, the location was convenient and the B&B was lovely. We loved being around them, they have created a very special place for travelers. The atmosphere is relaxed and absolutely perfect after a day of bargaining for a leather purse at the markets.....

We stayed 2 night in Il Giglio while on a 1 week trip to Italy. First off the owners were very helpful. Edo helped us find a good car park spot (Very difficult in Florence), recommended some good restaurants and overall was very helpful.

The guest house is 5-7 mins bus ride from historicaly city center. Bus frequency is quite decent with a bus every 5 mins. There are few good restaurants around the guest house and most of them are good.
GODO is specially recommended, its about 1 km walk but the food was really nice.

We stayed here for 4 nights in the separate and spacious room in the back of the house. We travel a lot, and certainly believe that Il Giglio d'Oro is an excellent choice in Florence: 1) Just a few minutes bus-ride (or walk) to the city centre, so you avoid the hordes of tourists (and their noises). 2) In a neighborhood with everything you may need. 3) You MUST follow Edo's recommendations for breakfast, lunch and dinner (fish, pizza, meat...); we ate in all the places he mentioned; we specially emphasize the daily caffè latte at Castaldini sisters' just around the corner (ask for the sandwich you want and they will prepare it for you)...We do not really understand why a couple of previous reviewers were suspicious about Edo's suggestions: they are extremely convenient and serving real Italian food for real Italian customers. Perhaps, it is Edo's natural Italian way, saying "you must eat here" (which is meant to be a polite suggestion, not a command!) what is misunderstood by many nordic and English speaking customers.

I really liked this guest house in Florence.

Upon arrival Edo gave us a gentle welcome and all the information we required to move around the city. He had also made reservations for the Uffizi and the Accademia Gallery (two of the most interesting museums in Florence), as we had requested by email.

Our room was large, bright and had a nice terrace. It was very comfortable with a big bed and a bathroom that was comfortable and clean. I liked the décor: there was care and attention to detail. Very clean, nice and tidy.

There was a small fridge, a kettle, coffee, tea and sugar, which contributed to the "being at home" feeling.

Edo and Celia are warm, charming and always ready to help. It's like being in the house of good friends.

I liked being in a typical Italian neighborhood - near tourist attractions – and also being able to experience the daily life of the Florentines.

We had breakfast at a very good bakery/ pastry shop that was around the corner. We also had dinner at a seafood restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. Both places were recommended by Edo.

Staying at Il Giglio d'Oro made our trip to Florence unforgettable and full of fond memories.

Why would we stay at a B&B instead of a hotel, especially if it is not located directly within Florence's medieval heart? Having visited the city before, albeit years ago, we were looking for authenticity: a Florentines view of where to go and what to see in a city swarming with tourists and restaurants catering to them. Eduardo (or Edo), the owner, a native of Florence, is exuberant, highly knowledgeable about the city, and gregarious enough to introduce us to cafe owners in the neighborhood (personally) and give us invaluable tips for restaurants in the old center where the food was down-to-earth wholesome and the prices reasonable. We received a basket of fruit with a bottle of wine the first night, and were otherwise extremely well taken care of in this small B&B. The room was pleasant, with a balcony overlooking the small garden in the back. We felt that Edo bent over backwards to make sure that our stay was a pleasant and interesting one. If my description is what you are looking for, I highly recommend Il Giglio D'Oro for your stay in Florence.

This is the philosophy that hosts Edo and Celia adopt towards their visitors and, for us, they definitely lived up to it! We had the feeling, from our first telephone contact, that we were going to be made very welcome and this feeling became reality when we arrived. Our stay in Florence was short and Edo’s local information proved to be invaluable. In particular, we appreciated his advice on good restaurants, so much so that, on our last night, we made a return visit to the local (excellent) fish restaurant together with Edo, Celia and their delightful baby, Jennifer.
Previous reviewers have spoken of the high standard of the accommodation - in fact, the reality exceeded our expectations!
We wholeheartedly recommend ‘Il giglio d’oro’ for your stay in Florence!

We just returned from a 3 week trip throughout Italy - Had a great time, meeting some wonderful people, seeing some incredible sights - Our Stay at Il Giglio d'Oro was one of the highlights - Edo, Celia and Jennifer were excellents hosts , the property was perfeclty located for us - near the major tourists areas but just away from the chaos. At arrival, Edo gave a great tour of the local neighborhood businesses and other pointers /tips on enjoying Florence - we so enjoyed the trying to talk with the ladies at the coffee /pastry shop, the local pizzeria and the pasta/lobster.dinner.

We received a very warm welcome, even though we showed up quite a bit earlier than atnicipated (caught a more direct train); we were greeted with Fruit, Water and Wine. The property is very nice, supporting quiet and privacy if desired and mingling in a very comfortable common area - a nice wine at the end of the day of sightseeing in the garden, visitng, with our wonderful hosts and other guests.

Our stay was very comfortable, the room/common area was perfect, our only regret was the stay was too short. The hosts and property brought so much more to our stay in Italy - We highly recommend.
