“Peaceful spot close to Florence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2011

My wife, baby son and I stayed for about a week in December - I like going to Italy's busier places in the winter as the museums are far emptier. Weather was pretty good, so we were lucky. I found Il Salviatino through Mr and Mrs Smith. It wasn't obviously a baby-friendly place and this was our first trip with him, so we were very pleased. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our first room was beautiful but full of baby-unfriendly stone steps and we were moved (upgraded) without any fuss. Food is superb and the chef was happy to mix up some plain paste (for us) and blended veg (for him) alongside the excellent menu. I imagine the place gets pretty busy in summer but it was delightful to have much of it to ourselves. Minibuses were suspended but they kindly organised (and paid for) taxis into town. Spa was good, too.
The decor is fine - I don't particularly like the trendy style (Costes, etc) of dark room lighting, ubiquitous mood music and everything drenched in perfume. Here it works, although I'd probably take out about half of the urns of scent in every room. Above all, we were really impressed by the people who were as friendly as they could be. It's clearly designed for adults and they coped well with an inexperienced young family.

I came back after almost two years and I found the hotel even better than my first visit.
The gardens were more and more beautiful, the pool, the spa, the hotel looks astonishing....
The service and the restaurant where I had a fabulous rizotto with the truffles was even better than the first timeI loved it so much that next time i will come back with a bunch of
friends who saw my photos and they liked the idea that Salviatino is not a traditional hotel...
We feel a home. The experience is unique... Thank you Salviatino....

our second visit was even better than the 1st one.
I returned to the salviatino with my husband in the month of november. we liked it the 1st time, we loved it this time. the hotel was less busy & we had a lot of attention to our every whim, we loved visiting florence without so many tourists, really enjoying just walking around.
the food was incredible, obviously we would have preferred eating on the terrace, but the weather while sunny during the day, was pretty chilly at night, the winter restaurant is nice enough and the food is so special and the attention we received is so kind and caring that u dont mind so much about the view.
I again loved the set up of the room at night, with all the candles and scent.
my husband was thrilled with the free wifi, we also watched pay per view movies for Free! which is a very thoughtfull idea.
the only negative it had not rain and the road was very dusty, our rent a car was a mess, the service ambassador offered to have it cleaned but we had to depart.
we are so tired of hotels being the same everywhere, il salviatino is special for people who know how to travel.

My wife, college aged daughter and I recently stayed in this fantastic hotel. The gorgeous setting above Florence was matched by the beauty of the villa itself. We were not bothered by being 15 minutes from the center of Florence, in large part because we took full advantage of the van shuttle service that they have. We found the staff to be extremely helpful whether it was lining up tours ,restaurants or museum visits. The meals we had there, two dinners and four breakfasts , were among the best we had in Italy. Our only complaints were that our room was too dark and that there the tv for the brand new fitness equipment was not working. All in all, a wonderful stay and we look forward to returning to Il Salviatino!

As some other reviews have pointed out, there is no doubting the glory o the villa and the surrounding trees and hills. There are however rough edges, and I will detail them. 1) Service can be a little hit or miss. Some moments we were treated with indifference or even coldly, as if we were interrupting someone's day by asking questions. Other moments we were surprised by the staff's good nature, 2) The gym/spa is very hard to find at first, and the facility is underwhelming. 3) There seems to be something lacking; call it utter professionalism, or constancy, given the high prices. 4) The rooms electric appliances, from the safe to the odd lighting remote control do not function smoothly. When we first arrived, we plugged something in causing a blown fuse. Also the safe failed us twice.

On the bright side: 1) Excellent breakfasts. 2) Wonderful public spaces, like the library! 3) Amazing trees and views.

The place is indeed special and I know it is the product of a dream, but for the dream to be properly realized, I believe that the staff needs to be shaken up, more attention paid to details in the rooms, and the amenities, such as the spa, updated and improved.

We stayed 5 hotels in my trip to Italy and II Salviatino is the best hotel of this trip. The hotel is full of history and great stroies. It has great view and great people too.
We have a dedicated service ambassador to take care of us. While we were enjoying the welcome champagne, he shown us around and introducded details and stories of this beautiful premises. The decor and facilities of the room are modern and hi tech. The services and the food are execellent, we have the best dinner and breakfast in Italy in II Salviatino.
About the shuttle bus, it is very convinent but if they can cancel the lunch break then it will make it prefect.
I love to come back. If you go to Florence, you must be there to experience a wonderful stay in this "6" stars hotel!

We stayed for a three day period with a Luxury link package. The package offered a great value of dinner & spa packages.
BIG PROs- The Chef & Restaurant! What an awesome meal. Interesting, inventive & delicious!!! The chef is great, fun, and clearly passionate about his craft.
- the spa was also great. Excellent services and super nice staff .
- the gorgeous property. Just gorgeous!!!
THE CONs - super poor lighting. Really, they need to invest in better lighting. A lighted makeup mirror in the bathrooms would go a long way towards improving any woman's impression.
- public transportation. Really they need to run the bus throughout the day and until about midnight so guests can explore. The long mid day break and early evening end to the service was frankly a little cheesy.
- breakfast was lack luster and while they would make hot food there was no way to know what was offered. A big miss that could have been fixed with a menu made available to guests.
They charge 1st class prices but haven't yet figured out how to provide 1st class svc.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about your recent stay with us, for the positive experiences and for your suggestions.
In particular I was surprised of our morning breakfast which we consider to be a great value for our guests as we do not charge for it. Our aim is to provide a morning special moment that starts with cold and hot drinks, together with our homemade bakery, accompanied by an important selection of cold cuts, cheese, fresh fruits, salted and sweet tarts, to end with the hot suggestions promptly prepared by our chefs . It’s all included and available all day. Because of the particular quality and freshness of the products we use, we wanted our ambassadors service to explain the entire experience rather than leave it to a menu and I am sorry to hear that we failed the opportunity to let you enjoy this particular moment of your stay.
I really hope we will have a chance to welcoming you again to Il Salviatino, and thanking you again for your valued suggestion, please find here below my personal e-mail address for any further comments you may have.

With best regards.
