A lovely hotel based around a fifteenth century building, set in its own parkland, in the hills of Fiesole above Florence. This hotel is excellently managed and staffed and my husband and I much preferred it to its well-established rival just up the hill behind it, primarily because here the staff extend the warmest of welcomes to all guests, not just to the celebrities. How wonderful it was to look down on the Duomo in the sunshine and then gaze at that view later in from the restaurant terrace by moonlight. The team of service ambassadors and others could not have tried harder to help us with all our needs - they were always smiling, ready and willing to assist. Delightful, long breakfasts on the terrace, days lounging by the pool(s), a very charming Italian garden in which to enjoy an aperitif, followed by a good dinner on that peaceful terrace. And if you want to see the city then take the regular quick and free shuttle bus into the centre and take in all the sights before escaping back to the fresher air of Fiesole.

Room Tip: I recommend that you discuss it with the people at the hotel - they will be able to help you decide...

We loved our recent stay at Il Salviatino. The staff were exceptional and the idea of one's own 'Service Ambassador' whilst slightly ludicrous sounding at first turned out to be genius. Nothing was too much trouble and restaurant/gallery tickets/taxi bookings were all completed with great speed and efficiency including maps, photos and directions, all presented within minutes in an envelope. Everyone who worked at the hotel was cheerful, charming, welcoming and extremely helpful. The rooms were equipped with everything one could wish for and a whole lot more besides, the air conditioning tackled the heat wave admirably (104 degrees F outside) and the servicing of the rooms was exemplary. The spacious dining terrace looks out over Florence and the dinner we had was delicious and imaginative.

Stayed there at the end of July. The location is excellent, only 10 mins by car from Florence town so very convenient. The restaurant and the bar is very nice. Rooms are large. Swimming pool is small but very nice and has a little ice cream cart next to it which is great for kids. Concierge is very good and helpful. They recommended some great restaurants and best of all advised us in going truffle hunting. Great recommendation!!

Florence was to be a highlight of our Journey around Tuscany so we hoped this hotel would live up to our expectations... We were not disappointed!
As we had a hire car we were attracted by the idea of locating a little more in the outskirts of town & the hotel was indeed fairly easy to get to. You are greeted at the entrance by security before you begin your ascent through the trees of the long drive up the hill to where the hotel sits. There was plenty of secure parking available around the back which was essential for us.

We were warmly greeted by the ambassadors at the front guest & this was to be the last time we needed to give our names as from this point on were were warmly greeted by all the staff as if old friends. Our luggage was dealt with for us swiftly & we were escorted to the bar/terrace for a complimentary glass of prosseco - always a good start! The hotel amenities & services were explained to us & a map provided which was expertly marked with the sights of interest to us.

The hotel itself is an historic palazzo sat in a magnificent location on the side of the hill overlooking the city - the Duomo is prominent lying directly opposite. The beautifully landscaped terrace gardens make full use of the view with plenty of outdoor seating. We enjoyed a few glasses of Prosseco watching the sun set here in the evening. The pictures on the hotel website do not lie & should provide some idea of the quality of the accomodation on offer.

Our room was large & well appointed with a TV cleverly set into a huge mirror. The bathroom was great with a seperate wet room & powerful shoer to invigoate after a hard day of sightseeing. It was a special occasion for us & the hotel had kindly provided a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate. The hillside is very quiet so we had a great nights sleep.

The breakfast was excellent & served on the terrace overlooking the city - a great place to enjoy a coffee & watch the early mist roll back. We were served at the table with staff bringing tasty delights to order including cereals - fresh fruit dishes & hot options. The waiters were courteous & efficient.

Indeed all the service was amazing. They have a young team in general but they already seem to have the experience demanded of a 5 star property. All my enquiries were dealt with swiftly & tickets I needed were booked & dlivered to our room. They helped us plan the rest of our journey around Tuscany & even secured me some wine tastings in Chianti I wanted for later on in the holiday. If I had one comment for improvement however it would perhaps be the dinner recommendations - it may reflect the clientele but we found with a number of other travellers that we were directed to the same couple of restaurants. They were good & we enjoyed eating there but we prefer a little more regional character when we are away & rely on good advice to help us find the local gems.

Given the view you will not be surprised to find this hotel is a little far from the city centre & the sights - however we feel the positives far outweigh this. The hotel does try to make up for this by providing a regular compliemantary shuttle service to the centre. We found this really helpful & made good use of it. However the minibus was not very big so I think if the hotel had been more full there may have been issues of capacity & demand. In any case it was easy to get a Taxi.

In summary we thought this was an amazing place to stay & does live up to its 5 star rating. I hope to return to Florence again soon & will look no further than here.

My wife and I stayed at il Salviatino for two nights in July, 2012. This was our second stay at this amazing hotel. Il Salviatino is the most romantic and mystical hotel we have ever stayed in. The room was absolute luxury with every amenity possible. The food is delicious, the views of Florence breath-taking, and the garden is just beautiful. At night, the hotel transports you back 500 years when it is lit by candles throughout the premises. Everything at this hotel is first class from the room, library, staff, scenery, and especially a sweet mojito after a day of sight seeing and shopping. Will definitely stay here on every visit to Florence.

We spent a week in this gem hotel just outside the centre of Florence. There were 13 of us, including 6 young kids. Each one of us was made to feel special. Kids were entertained by incredible fun filled cooking classes. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. Not one bad experience. Will certainly return.

After our stay we happened to channel surf to a British TV travel show that featured this hotel., which came to the conclusion that Il Salviatino was not worth it. As with the show review, there is much to like here, especially in the restaurant, but the team's style falls flat in implementation. Here's our take as to why.

The idea is compelling. No front desk, no hotel accouterments, few rules... as if you were visiting the Villa in yesteryear. On check-in you are greeted like a distinguished visitor and shown to your room. When you check out, they just come to say goodbye, discretely slipping you the bill. If you want a romantic dinner on a remote patio--no problem. If you want a particular dish not on the menu, just call down and (if possible) they get it for you.

Where this breaks down is that you don't know the price for things until later. I suppose talking price would destroy the illusion here, and at this price-point if you have to ask... it is too much. But still we found this uncomfortable, and especially so when we saw the bill! Very similar to the hosts in the TV show: opulent, yes; worth it, not even close. The management should try Eagle's Nest in New Zealand to see how this is done properly.

A major problem is that everyone seems so high-concept here, so impressed with themselves, that nobody seems to care about the "little things". The result is a series of gaffs, catastrophes, and missing details large and small... well documented by other negative reviews here.

The particular complaint we can add is the insufferable habit of staff treating complaints as psychological rather than actual. If you complain, they will sympathize with you and "treat your mood", rather than the problem. This, at least for us, was guaranteed to make our mood worse. The employees here seem like hapless sympathy cartoons. Their hearts will bleed over the slightest complaints, but they won't (can't?) fix anything. In our opinion, this is the major problem with Il Salviatino.

To give a hotel this gorgeous a 2 is about as low as we can go. We advice is not to stay here unless money is no object whatsoever and you want to see a goofy take at an un-hotel.

Dear sir,
As you refer to a stay of June 2010 is very difficult to be concrete and helpful : the pictures posted are old and since 2011 we have a front desk. 2010 was the opening year ; since then new staff including myself have arrived and many investment were done. Never the less I am at your complete disposal for anything you may need and if you wish to come back I will be honored to welcome you personally.
Sincerely,
