“Great place great location and a real great lady”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2012

What can you say about Macella. A warm friendly lady. He english is not the best but boy does she try. She welcomed us with open arms made sure we say all the gifts that were given to us from other canadians ( we left a golf hat) She shared wine with us that she was so appreciative that we replaced. We laughed with her for a couole of hours around here kitchen table. Showed us on a map where to go and good places to eat. All of the attractions are within a 10 minute walk, Domo is five away, david as well. Please note that this is not a B&B just a bed. As she says Marcella does not cook. For 50 euros a night for two people what else could you ask for. Train station is a 10 minute walk. Narrow sidewalks make it difficult to drag luggage but given the traffic I think it is still quicker to walk that to take a cab.

<my husband and i stayed with <marcela for two nights and were thoroughly delighted. We shared a bath but there were no conflicts with the other couple there. <on the second night <marcela upgraded us to a bigger room for no extra cost. We spent two nights chatting with her even though we speak very little <italian and she speaks very little English. She is delightful to talk with. We also meet her daughter <patricia and patricias husband. The casa is centrally located and although it seems that you shouldnt be able to walk to everything you can with a little effort. We made the mistake of calling a cab to take us to the train station and it turned out it was probably a half mile away. Enjoy your stay there

My husband, myself, my daughter and her husband stayed in Florence at the end of September 2012. We had separate rooms with the bath in the hallway. We were the only ones using that bath that worked for us. My husband and I had a huge room with a sleeping area and a living and dining area. Marcella was extremely helpful and you could tell she loved people and loved talking to us. Her English was somewhat limited but we had no problems communicating. We felt like we were staying in our mother (or grandmother's) house.
It was a fabulous location, very near the train station, in a residential area. It was so nice getting away from the crowds of tourists at the end of the day. We ate at ZaZa's which was a really nice restaurant and very close.

Room Tip: We stayed in the larger back room while my daughter and her husband stayed in the front. They found...

What a wonderful experience close to the heart of Florence! The rooms (both with a private bath or shared bath) are very comfortable and extremely clean. Marcella, the owner, creates an atmosphere where you quickly feel you have become a part of an Italian family. She readily helps with suggestions for restaurants, tourist sites, and quickly provides a map and directions. I would highly recommend the Casa Rabatti as a well run, reasonably priced Florence stay.

Staying with Marcella is like staying with your grandmother in a good way. There are lacy sheets and doilies. Marcella is very enthusiatic and you can understand her even though she speaks little English. We had a double room with a shared bathroom. The room was decent size for Europe, the bed was comfortable, and the fan kept it cool and blocked out extra noise. The shared bathroom had a spacious and warm shower. It's a very short walk to the Central Market and Duomo. Great value and comfortable, I would definitely stay again.

The Rick Steves travel book evaluation and recommendation for this "casa" are spot-on! Marcella is the woman who owns and runs this B&B, and she is most considerate, kind, and helpful. The accommodations were certainly VERY clean when we were there, and we had NO problems or complaints. The location is terrific for Florence, as you can walk to main train station in about 7 minutes, and everything in Florence is a nice short and appealing walk from there. IF you don't like B&B's where you might see other people in your common foyer or living room area, and if you don't like the idea of a shared bathroom, and if you want lots and lots of frills, then this is NOT for you. (But, we did have access to a small refrigerator and very clean, and we did have access to wifi that WAS very adequate AND the bed was perfectly comfortable and sheets VERY clean.) IF you don't enjoy it when people of other countries try to speak English for YOU and help YOU, and IF you aren't willing to be sensitive a bit and simply enjoy the surprises of communication that can sometimes happen when people are not fluent in each others language...then you probably need a STANDARD 5 star hotel...but IF you LOVE people of other cultures, and IF you want a bit of a taste of Italy (with an added bonus of a touch of a special "Italian mother/friend/grandma combined") then Casa Rabatti *is* for you. Marcella's place could actually be thought of as a 5 star hotel based on its fine location, in the heart of where real people live, and based on its cleanliness, and its charming down-home simplicity, and also its CHARACTER. We read one or two VERY negative reviews, and we just don't get what those people are saying. Perhaps they came with the wrong expectations. Staying at Casa Rabatti really was one of our favorite experiences and sites while in Florence for our 1st time visit. Truth. Lots of fun to walk right down the street to a real people market close by, and then a short distance further to all the cultural sites, etc. The price is good for what you get, no doubt about it. At least it was for us when we stayed from May 31 thru June 3, 2012. Marcella and her Casa Rabatti are just perfect! Great options to consider for any budget traveller wanting a clean, safe, and good place to stay and still centrally located. By the way, we had NO problem with bugs or insects or noise. Very quiet, too. We are amazed that anyone had a bad experience, so we found that the majority of the reviews for this place were correct, and the one or two bad reviews were maybe people trying to simply write a bad review for some strange reason. Readers always have to sift through things. Good luck to all in your travels ahead!

Room Tip: Just make sure you repeat things and put things in writing to simply summarize. Marcella has a daug...

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights last March and it was a wonderful experience. Marcella was so nice and she made our exploration of Florence a truly beautiful experience. She even made reservations for the Ufizzi and Accademia at no extra charge. We are already planning our next trip and will bring the kids this time so they can meet Marcella. If you need a very nice and quiet place 5 minutes by taxi from the train station. Go see Marcella and tell her that David and Migdalia sent you...Thank-you again. Much happiness.
