“Nice little hotel in the heart of Firenze”
Reviewed 12 November 2012

I stayed at the Hotel Margaret for a week back in May of 2010 with some friends. We had a room with 3 beds and a private bath. This hotel is run by a friendly family who always greet you as you come and go. The young man who works the front desk, Graziano speaks English and is very nice. The hotel is near the train station so it's a great base to travel further around Italy. It's also close to the duomo and a lot of restaurants. I would stay at Hotel Margaret again if I ever return to Florence.

Looking at the reviews can't believe we stayed in same place as those that give this hotel a good rating. Yes, it is close to the station and the sights but that is all. We were put in a front noisy room facing the street. The room was clean but the bedding and furniture are old like the owners. We had to ask for the air condition remote and as said by others the Wi fi is very weak. The owners were friendly but communication was difficult as we can't speak Italian and their English is limited.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms that those that were happy with this hotel got.

great location, great city. the location is good, you can walk from train station and to city, to Duomo, to bridge.
This is the only one floor hotel, however, it is better than my thought. good and clean room, large and clean baht room. It is only one star hotel, but it is good. good service, because I ask for hot drink water, they give us a kettle :) , just poor wifi.

If you're looking for reasonably priced accommodation close to the Florence train station, Hotel Margaret is a good choice. Not only is it just a 5 minute walk from the station, it's also right by the large Piazza Santa Maria Nouvella, which we found much nicer than similar hotels on busier streets in the neighborhood. The room was spotless. It doesn't include breakfast, but the Mercato Centrale is a 10 minute walk away, and we had a wonderful frittata there for 3 euros.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. Florence is surprisingly small, but it was a convenient location because it was SO close to the train station and just on the outer ring of the old town where all the sights are. The staff was kind of lackluster but nice enough. The hotel and room were clean.

We were surprised to find when we got there that for 70 Euro a night we actually had an extremely large 1 bedroom apartment. We weren't supposed to use any part of the kitchen, but it was nice to have all the space. The view from the windows were quite nice, seeing the garden and what just looked like a normal residential area. Only negative was that the bed was extremely uncomfortable - it was all springs and felt like it must have been 50 years old.

Good enough place to stay for the rate if you're not a sensitive sleeper.

When booking, ask for apartments in Via della Scala 31 on 3rd floor. This is the next door to the hotel and it belongs to same owners. There are 2 connected double rooms with shared batheroom and little hall there - little flat with service for 4 people. It was very nice to stay there - no other tourists, no noise and full freedom. Highly recommended in case you don't need anything except the place to spend the night or more. The staff of Margaret whom we needed 2-3 times during 4 days was very nice. The location near to S.M. Novella is also very good since you can reach any train, bus or airport shuttle in few minutes. Lots of shops and bars around and also 5-7 minutes walk to the very center. And private wi-fi in our little flat

we've stayed in the next door building with the private bathroom. This was actualy an old flat not a hotel room, which was a cute experience, all the windows were inside the courtyard, so it is very quite at night. The location is perfect for 2-3 days in Florence. IF you have more time to spent in the city and prefer to stay in comfort, I would recommend to pick another place.
Please be aware that there is no elevator in both buildings, so if you stay in the private room you'll have to climb to the 3d floor with your lagguage, the hotel staff didn't have any intention to help us :)
