“cold and vacant”
Reviewed 14 January 2013

My family of 7 stayed at this property right after Christmas. It is very close to the historical area. However, our stay was not enjoyable. This is not a hotel or B&B. It is a very starkly furnished apartment. The staff are only there 9-5, no weekends or holidays. We checked in 15 min before they closed, and never saw them again. We were freezing the first night and slept in our coats because there was no one there to tell us how to turn on the heat. There was supposed to be a laundry on premises - couldn't find anyone to tell us where that was either. There is no phone in the unit for emergencies. There was no oven, just a cooktop. The beds are awful - like camp cot quality. The blankets were filthy. The shower in one bathroom was clogged & overflowed. Maintenance did come out to fix it and used the same plunger in the toilet, shower, and the sink without cleaning anything after. There was no place to put anything except on the floor - not even a single towel bar in the entire unit! Unbelievable. The rooms on the street side are very noisy. I would have left the first night, but rescheduling 7 people is a problem.

We were double booked at another hotel and ended up at the Virginio. Turned out that it made our trip to Florence. Loved the apartment, great location for the sites with easy walk to both supermarkets and the C2 bus route which brings you to the main train station or city centre.

Rachid, the manager, made the visit so much easier by helping us with getting prebooked tickets for the museums, well worth booking ahead and not waiting in the often very long queues. Really helpful person who contributed so much to helping us have a great visit.

Opposite the residence is a lovely restaurant which is well worth visiting as is the main market which is five or so minutes walk.

Can't thank the manager enough for helping us turn the trauma of a problem with another hotel into a lovely experience at this residence. If I go back to Florence this will be where I look to book first.
