A family run restaurant with good traditional food for casual tourists. Very friendly owners cuddle out-of-towners explaining Italian food basics from their set menu. No buzz but a lot of noise from the happy Japanese and Brits enjoying themselves. Excellent ingredients but as expensive as many more "in" restaurants where alas the tourists in T-shirts and backpacks would not feel as welcome or comfortable.

What a fantastic experience. I have not seen this on any guidebook and we took a flyer here on a review in Bon Appetiti. The shrimp risotto was the best risotto I have found anywhere.....dreamy. Mama treated us well and Papa too. The Bistecca Florentine was fabulous and served perfectly.....I am not sure if this place gets the recs but it was full on a Tuesday night and full with locals. We were the only English speakers in there. Highly Recommended!

I come to florence every year and I always try a new restaurant without without missing my favourite ones. I think that this restaurant will become part of that group. Il Pandemonio provides a cozy atmosphere,--you will be surrounded by walls full of a variety of original paintings in various media-- great service, and the food is excellent and so is the list of wines. The restaurant located on the via del Leone, where there are other luring places. This is a quieter area of Florence in the Oltrarno--across the Arno-. If you do not speak Italian, the owners and waiters seek English making the choices easy. Here, you will be able to enjoy a good meal without the pretentiousness one often finds in heavy tourism destinations such as Florence, Venice, and Rome.

We were recommend to go to this restaurant by the place we stayed at the Palazzo Magnani Feroni (which was a highlight in itself) and they couldn't have done better, this restaurant was very cozy, family run on a very tiny street with great ambiance.

Dinner hour in Florence is anytime after 7pm, and we were hungry and were the first one there, and the family themselves were just finishing their dinner. They were so hospitable.

We didn't know what to order, so just left it up to them. The owner provided us with a wonderful selection and they started with the Pandemonio platter which was an assortment of all sorts of wonderful appetizers, highly recommend with their house Italian wine (actually every where we went it was recommended to try the house wine which was always a good choice).

The whole menu is great, let them make a recommendation. It was just under $100 Canadian for a bottle of wine, couple of appetizers, two main courses and dessert for two. Well worth it! If we were staying longer we would have gone back again.

So we saw the mixed reviews but went anyway as it was recommended by our hotel and we were not disappointed at all. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The wait staff and kitchen staff were attentive, helpful, and seemingly quire happy. The wine list was quite impressive, as well. Most importantly, the food was excellent and a great value. We highly recommend the shrimp risotto…it is really exquisite. Also, the eggplant flan was excellent….so tender and sweet and creamy. We split the steak florentine which was also quite good. The desserts were superb and the lemon cello and grappa made a nice finishing touch. All in all, a great meal that will bring us back for more!
