“5 star all the way.....we'll be back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2011

This hotel is rated as a 4 star but in my opinion should be a 5 star. It is a recently renovated old Florentine Palazzo that has been converted to a hotel and they did it right!
The hotel means watch or clock in italian and the hotel theme is all about high end watches. Each room has a name of a famous maker watch. Our's was the "Explorer" by Rolex. The room sizes are huge for European standards and the bathrooms very luxurious and BIG. Full size bath tub , rainshower.. Very nice amenities. The location is great right on the Piazza Santa Maria de Formosa, walking distance to the train station. It could get a bit noisy after the bars closed, we could hear people walking on the streets and there is alot of people that hang out on the piazza at night, people watching +++.
We definately will come back. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. The hotel's breakfast room is very nice with a view of the piazza, Great food selections. You will not be disappointed with this property!

The lack of a restaurant , the mediocre and low signal wi-fi , and the fact they gave us a downgraded room without telling us....saddens me that I can't give it top marks. On top of it the attempt to put the highest rate on the bill for the extra night and the dour and sour faced head receptionist who didn't know what an apology was....for the litany of errors...made me leave with a bad taste. However it's still worthy of top marks if all of the above nonsense had not happened and there was an eatery within. The rooms are superb, the beds are great and everything about the hotel including the sensational breakfast room on the top floor and good but not excellent breakfast, has an aura of a well thought out , beautifully decorated, serenely quiet, and most pleasant hotel in a location that couldn't be better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

Nothing but perfection! From the time you enter the hotel and are greeted by the friendly, professional staff to the fluffy hotel pillows, luxiourous beds, gorgeous marble bathrooms, it was first class all the way! Especially perfect location for walking around historic center of Florence. Highly recommend this hotel for the discerning traveller.

Found this hotel via TA search for somewhere to stay for 3 nights in Florence. I wanted something close to the train station, and this was only about 3 blocks away on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. An easy trip with rolling luggage between the station and hotel.
The hotel was quite a surprise, elegantly themed after Rolex timepieces in dark woods, leather, and marble. It felt quite luxurious.
The room had a view onto the Piazza, free wired internet, room safe, and comfy air-conditioning for the hot humid Florentine days. The bathroom was spacious and all marble and chrome, reminiscent of a Ritz Carlton type bathroom. Tall large bathtub with rain shower head positioned centrally. (Don't pull that unlabeled string in the tub thinking it might be the vent control, though, or the front desk will call to see if you need help!)
The breakfast included with our room was in an elegant dining room on the 4th floor overlooking the Piazza, and was better than most with cold meats and cheese, fruit cereal and yogurt, pastries, and scrambled egge and bacon.
Overall, it felt like a five star experience in a convenient location (for train travelers) for a not unreasonable price. A great find.

I booked this on the basis of what I had read on Trip Advisor and agree will all the recent laudatory posts. I had been worried about the area (would it be too far from the center of town, was it in a dangerous or seedy area?) based on some older reviews and other sources but none seem to be a problem anymore, the piazza is beautiful now, calm and clean, and flanked with many other very nice hotels. I never felt unsafe here and it is a good neighborhood-- less crowded with tourist but still the basic stores and restaurants you like to be convenient to. The hotel itself had excellent amenities (we were ready for max air conditioning and free wifi at that point in our trip), yet still felt like a unique Italian hotel as opposed to a big international chain. Loved that there was a basic, but well-styled, gym, and the free computer to use in the downstairs is a huge iMac! The room seems worthy of a 5 star hotel, as did everything else. We were upgraded to a larger room (on their booking sheet I saw they had noted in my comments about it being our anniversary) which may have helped.

Room Tip: We got room 321 which was big, quiet, and had wifi
