“Elegant & Close to All”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

This hotel is located only a couple of blocks from the train station and easy to get to. The rooms are elegantly furnished with hardwood floors and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are impeccably clean with nice showers and nice accessories. The rooms are on split levels with steps along the hallways and up to the dinning facility, so watch your step as you look at the clock art in the hallways and when you go to breakfast. There is a tasteful clock artwork theme throughout the hotel. The public spaces are rather intriguing with use of interesting lighting and decor. The dining facility on the top floor is gorgeous with views of St. Maria Novella, with an impressive continental breakfast served daily. There is also spa/gym facilities on the premises. While the room in which we stayed, as well as the ones in which our friends stayed were a bit dark, they have numerous cleverly designed lighting fixtures - which help compensate. The hotel is equidistant to Arno River, the Domo and the Uffizi Gallery, etc. - all a short walk away. The staff is courteous and competent. We would stay here again.

We recently stayed at Hotel L'Orologio for 5 nights in the middle of June. While we enjoyed our stay we do have mixed feelings.
The hotel is perfectly located in Florence - 5 minutes from the train station, 10 minutes from the main shopping streets and about 15 minutes from Ponte Vecchio. It is situated in the Santa Maria Novella Square providing a lovely view both from the breakfast room and each time you step out of the hotel.
The staff were amazing - undoubtedly the friendliest we have encountered in our travels in Italy. We were provided with a map upon check-in and they highlighted points of interest without us having to ask. Any questions we had were answered with a smile and they were always happy to help in any way that they could.
The hotel itself is beautifully appointed with a clock theme throughout, a lovely sitting room and a bar for your convenience. We booked a Superior room which was also lovely, with a nice big comfy bed. Unfortunately, our room (408) was positioned right next to the breakfast room. We could hear the staff setting up every morning before 7am - the clinking of cuttlery, plates and the back and forth footsteps. Hotel L'Orologio is more expensive than others and having booked a superior room at an even higher rate we were slightly disappointed.
So, while the hotel, staff and location are wonderful, the positioning of room 408 next to the breakfast room is indeed a disappointment. Perhaps request any other room to ensure a good nights sleep (and a nice sleep in!!).

Room Tip: Avoid room 408 - next to the breakfast room and can hear the staff setting up each morning before 7a...

Everything about our stay was wonderful. The room and bathroom were lovely.

The breakfast room was very light and spacious, with large windows out to the Santa Maria Novella square, and the food was undoubtedly a cut above the standard breakfast array.

In addition, the staff was friendly and efficient, helping us with a number of small requests during our stay.

The location was good, near the train station and a comfortable walk to historical sights, restaurants and shops.

All in all, it was a fine hotel that we would recommend without hesitation.

We were hesitant to spend too much but decided that this was not the moment to pinch pennies while in Florence. Centrally located and perfectly appointed, this was ideal for our stay. This room was the biggest of any we encountered on our vacation in Italy and we were happy to spend a little more for the amenities. The breakfast buffet was an unexpected surprise, as we could have lingered there all day. The fresh food and coffee made it unnecessary to pay for extra meals while there. The service was efficient and friendly and we would certainly recommend this to a couple on a special trip. One bit of advice: we rented a car to get us from Rome to Florence (we stopped in Assisi along the way) and our entry into Florence turned into a hilarious episode of trying to navigate to the hotel. If we go back we will use the train.

It is a hotel with 6 rooms on each floor. I went with my wife, and when we walk into the room. we were amazed by how "Grand" it was with respect to the price they are charging us. ($200/ night)
The room was big, and the bathroom was huge. It was at least 12" ceiling. Everything was in marble. The bed were firm and comfortable.
The staffs were friendly and speak English. 5 mins walk from train station.
We stayed two nights and we did not need to take taxi during our stayed.

One of the better valued hotel in Florence.

Firenze is the second destination of my trip at Italy! L'O hotel is just better than what I expect! It is very near to the Firenze SMN station! Only 10 mins walk and you will find L'O at the Piazza S. Maria Novella. The location of this hotel is superb as it is close to most of the famous tourist spot of Firenze.. The room is spacious, very clean and tidy! I just love the design of this place! The breakfast cafe is located at the top floor which got an awesome view to the piazza, the food is great and the place is really nice! Staff at here are all very nice and helpful and most of them speak perfect English! My wife and I had a great experience with L'O... One last comment, don't trust the photos as the real thing looks much better than the photos!!!
