“Great hotel in Florence”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Great location for walking almost anywhere. Especially convenient to the train station.
Unfortunately we did not read the room tips and were given 408 which was right next to the breakfast room (which is beautiful by the way) and it was quite loud as the staff was getting ready for breakfast and as guests waited around for the doors to open.
The bar area is lovely and we returned from dinner every evening and had a cocktail by the little pool. They recommended some great restaurants for dinner which were all very close by.
I would stay here again if I ever do make it back to Florence!

Room Tip: avoid 408 which is too near the breakfast room and can be loud.

The staff are friendly and very welcoming at this great hotel in central Florence. The L'Orologio is located near the rail station and is within walking distance of all the attractions in Florence.

Stayed here three nights in July and had a flawless experience. Rooms were spacious. Good design. Few minutes walk to main sites and Fortezza sa Basso (I was there for a conference).
Breakfast was delicious and the staff had plenty of kindness for my wife and child.

We have visited Florence multiple times over the course of the last two decades and there's no question that, the next time we go, we'll be staying at the L'Orologio again.

As others have mentioned, the location is excellent. It's on the just-refurbished Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, which is lively with young people and music in the evening, particularly on warm summer nights. Some nice restaurants on the piazza, too. It's a 5min walk to the Duomo, and from there all of Florence's main sites. One slight downside is that many of Florence's best restaurants are on the other side of town, near Santa Croce, but even that is only a 15-20min walk.

The property itself has the look and feel of a just-renovated, upscale boutique hotel in a historic building, complete with highly designed common areas, including several lounges, a bar area and restaurant. As the name implies, it all has a clock-related theme, with photos of Rolexes scattered throughout. The rooms are big, particularly by Italian standards, and also designed to a high standard, including a large bathroom.

Some reviewers have complained about the breakfast, but we don't share that concern. The breakfast room is on the hotel's top floor with large windows overlooking the Santa Maria Novella church, a stunning way to start the morning. The food selection is not huge, but all the basics are there: cereals, fruits, yogurts, breads, juices, and of course coffee. If you're looking for a big fry-up, maybe it disappoints, but not for us.

We also don't share the concerns raised about the hotel staff. They were courteous and helpful. Having visited Florence many times before, we didn't really need restaurant suggestions or the like, but in all our interactions, we had no problems.

One final note: I have been to Florence for work-related conferences, and senior officials from business and politics are often put up at the Hotel L'Orologio by conference organizers. Clearly, the locals who know Florence well also think the L'Orologio is one of the best in town, too.

This hotel is in a perfect location for the train station and to see all the lovely sites of Florence. All the staff we encountered were very professional and courteous. Nothing was too much trouble. The room we had on the 5th floor (502) was of a good size and had a lovely view. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was immaculately clean.

We had booked a walking tour, a tour of the Uffizi and a visit to see David with Artviva which was a full day and gave us a lot of insight into the history of Florence. We also went to the Pizzi Palace and Boboli gardens which should not be missed. The shopping is also fantastic.
All in all we had a memorable trip and would love to return one day.

Room Tip: 502 is a quiet room with a lovely view

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights. The location is great. Everything is within walking distance. The hotel room has a very high ceiling and it was near renovated. It is the best hotel we stayed in Italy. 5 minutes from the train station and tour bus meeting location. I will definitely stay here again.

Last city on my 3 week Italian getaway, and I am impressed with the hotel. Classic design and the rooms are really gorgeous. They are huge (in comparison after staying in Rome and Venice) with very nice beds and showers. Am very fussy on my beds, and their mattresses and pillows are pretty good. Strategically located next to train and bus station so it is very easy for the traveller to just pop-in (could be easier if they actually hung a sign board outside the hotel !!!). What could be better ??? Well, friendlier reception - the were rather cold. Breakfast was ummm, served but I'd rather skip it, housekeeping is patchy at best and they tend to direct you to overpriced restaurant (so many other great ones that are 1/2 the price of their recommendations). Other than that, please proceed with your bookings. Those small matters could be fixed.
