“Magnificent luxury hotel close to train station”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 via mobile

This hotel is a magnificent luxury hotel close to the train station, as well as a few walking blocks (5-10 min) from the center of Florence (Duomo) and the Arno River. The room is fit for royalty--expensive dark hardwood and marble throughout, with a lovely arched window and spacious bathroom. The breakfast and hotel staff are first class, but the best feature of the hotel is that it is in charming, beautiful Florence (Firenze). There are nice restaurants and gelaterie close to the hotel. Wow!

We stayed only one night at this hotel and wished our schedule had allowed for more. The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were very nice--excellent linens and a very nice bathroom. We couldn't have asked for a better location --just steps from the square. The breakfast was excellent with a very good mix of hot and cold items--including eggs which you will not always find at breakfasts in Italy. The staff in the breakfast room were extremely attentive and the staff at the front desk were very helpful. When we find ourselves in Florence again, we will definitely plan a longer stay!

I spent 4 nights here with my other half in October 2013 and would definitely recommend Hotel L'orologio to anyone planning a weekend in Florence. The hotel itself is in a prime spot within minutes of the city's most famous sites and easy access to shops and restaurants. The decor is stunning, the rooms are spotless and our room boasted the comfiest hotel bed I have ever slept in. The only possible downside is that the rooms are quite dark, which is further accentuated by the dark wooden floors and furniture. Our room overlooked a private enclosed courtyard so there wasn't a lot of natural sunlight either - but we spent most of the day out and about anyway.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast room is just lovely; with plenty of choice for food. I would also recommend drinks at the hotel bar where you can sit outside on the typically narrow cobbled street and "people watch" - our drinks came with complementary nibbles, which was a nice bonus!

We spent 14 days in Italy and stayed in Rome, Sorrento, Florence and Venice and this was by far our favorite hotel. It is within walking distance to the train station which is wonderful if you are traveling by train. The staff was very courteous and already addressed us by our name by the second time we entered the hotel. Everything about our room was great, overlooked the side street but you could see the piazza. Enjoyed opening the windows and just listening to the sounds at night. The staff arranged us an 8 hour tour through the Tuscany countryside and a stop in Siena. Breakfast was good and had plenty of food. Best part of Florence was everything was in walking distance, never had to get in a taxi.

Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask to overlook piazza if possible

From check-in through check-out, we loved our stay at the hotel. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, the staff very helpful. Although there were a number of activities going on at the hotel during our stay it was never noisy at night. If we return to Florence, we will stay here.

Our first trip to Europe was on a tour by Orbridge. They chose this hotel for our 1-night stay in Florence. All of us in the tour group wished we could have stayed a few more days here. It was a very nice hotel. Interestingly, there was no name on the outside of the building! I wanted to orient myself so as to return to the right place after exploring on-foot, but I saw no sign at all. Be aware of this and figure out some way to get yourself back to the hotel. Also, we could not get any of the lights to work. The hotel staff had to tell us to leave our key in the slot inside the front door. It's important not to forget that key when you leave the room!

Location: 5 mins walk from the Florence train station; 5 mins from the Florence Cathedral; max 15 min walk to anywhere of any sightseeing significance really.

We were upgraded to a Junior Suite - a nice surprise. Very spacious, nice bed, clean towels and linen. The suite comes with an excellent bathroom with a standalone bathtub and enclosed shower. There is no view to speak of, however. Most windows looked out to other room windows and were little more than an excuse to hang heavy curtains on.

Breakfast is served on the fourth floor dining room which does have a nice view over Piazza di Santa Maria Novella and the Basilica of San Lorenzo. The food was not much more than what you'd expect from a continental breakfast but with hot scrambled eggs and bacon, with rather poor coffee. But you're in Florence so great espressos abound, like the Roberto Cavelli just around the corner, or the cafés dotted around the Piazza Republica.

Even with the rather steep price I would definitely come back and stay here again.
