“Best tour of Florence”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Elizabeth B. led us in Florence through Context tours. It was a small group of 6 and simply marvelous ! She made it very personable and tailored the tour to meet our needs and interests...not a cookie cutter dialogue but unique to us. Even our teenagers loved it ( and her!).
Highly recommended

“Outstanding Tour”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We have taken several outstanding tours with Context Tours and our recent tour, Foods of Florence, met the same high standards. We visited interesting specialty shops, tasting truffles, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, antipasto and gelato. Our docent was very knowledgeable, informative and charming, explaining how to buy and how to prepare. Don't miss this wonderful way to spend 3 hours in Florence.

“Small, unique tour!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Took the Michelango Walking Tour in a private group of eight. We all enjoyed it immensely. Patty was extremely knowledgeable and shared her obvious passion for Michelangelo and the world in which he lived. Would definitely recommend this tour group!

“Rare and intimate views of Florence”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

I'd heard good things about Context Travel and it's all true. I did two walks on the same day, and they worked well together: the Medici world in the morning, beginning with the divine San Marco Museum, continuing to the Medici Riccardi Palace -- unknown to me before and a real stunner -- and ending at the sublime Medici Chapels, with an added bonus of a special exhibition about the first Medici pope. Our guide, Elizabeth, was a true scholar and enthusiast and conveyed her own enjoyment of the material. Also, the small group was congenial.
My afternoon walk was more informal but equally informative. Our guide, Luca, is an historian and expert in art restoration, and he led a tour of the few remaining shops by true craftsmen. We got to meet and watch a goldsmith, an artist of the intricate mosaics called pietre dure, a young magician creating marbled paper, and ended up in the fabulous fabric shop where many designers get their silks, linens and wools. It was all good, and Luca is a most interesting man.
The beauty of Context is that you are meeting not only experts but real people with opinions they are not unwilling to share. It is not a rehearsed and rushed experience.
I will definitely take one of their tours again.

“Michelangelo Walking Tour is the Best”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Having a big interest in Michelangelo and his work, I was very intent on getting "the" Michelangelo experience. I wanted a "walk in his shoes" sort of experience. I wanted a guide who was steeped in Michelangelo knowledge, someone whose interest was as focused as my own. Wow, did I ever find what I was looking for with Context Travel and their docent, Cornelia. Cornelia has her PhD in Art History and has spent the last twenty years of her life living in Florence, so her knowledge is much broader than just Michelangelo, and she was adept at putting him and his work in the proper context of his time. In a word, she was outstanding. Her years in the classroom made themselves apparent with her clear, in-depth explanations of Michelangelo's preparatory work for a new sculpture and his sculpting techniques; she explained the tools he used, those he didn't use, and why. She pointed out the artistic structure of his early work and how he was influenced by those who came before him and those from whom the great master learned. This was the most outstanding tour I have ever had the privilege of attending. If you are interested in really diving into a specific subject matter, this is where you can find it.
