My wife and I had a small group tour with a guide around the Uffizi. It was the 2 of us and a couple of Canadians who were very friendly. The guide was excellent and helped us to really understand and appreciate the art much better than if we had just walked around on our own.

We had an enlightening and delightful tour with Martino. There were 6 in our group - 3 adults and 3 teenage boys. Everyone learned quite a bit and there was something for each of us. The telescope and tool history was fascinating and we got far more out of our visit to the church than we expected to. This tour ended up being one of my 16-year old's top two favorite parts of the vacation.

While in Florence recently, I did two Context Tours: the Michaelango tour and the Uffizi . Both were excellent! The Michaelango tour begins at Casa Buonarroti, where Michaelango's nephew lived, and includes two early sculptures of Michaelango's: the Madonna of the Steps and the Battle of the Centaurs. We walked next to the Bargello Museum, which houses Donatello's David and St. George. Our guide pointed out the face on the statue of St. George, which may have influenced Michaelango as he carved the face on his famous statue of David. This was an excellent preparation for seeing Michaelango's work at the Accademia! His David is perfection, and the setting under the dome offers beautiful 360 degree views. I also loved his Prisioners and Pieta. This is a great tour for anyone wanting to go deeper into the genius of Michaelango. Tickets to the Accademia are included in the tour price, but you will have to purchase tickets to Casa Buonarroti and the Bargello. Bring cash to purchase these tickets. The Context tour dramatically reduced the wait to enter the Accademia, but there is still a short wait. Seeing the David, Prisioners, and Pieta make the wait well worthwhile!

The second Context tour was for the Uffizi. Included in the tour price is timed entry for the galleries. This allows you to skip the long line for the non-reserved public entrance to the museums; however, there is still a line for reserved entrance. The treasures in the Uffizi Museum are simply overwhelming! Having a guide to showcase special works of art is very helpful.

We did two tours with Context Florence and they were both great! We did the Michelangelo in Florence tour and the Uffizi Tour. For both tours, Siro was our guide. He was fantastic! I saw art in a different way and I learned so many things about the art not only of Michelangelo, but of other artist of his time. The Uffizi Tour was just as good as the first tour. The museum was so crowded, but Siro made sure that we all got a good spot to view the art and to hear his explanations about the art. He would ask us questions about what we could see in the art, so it wasn't simply a guide telling us what the art was, he explained what it represented and allowed us to interpret what we saw as well. Kudos to a great company. We waited too long to book for some of our Rome activities and there were no availabilities. So my advice is to book early and book many tours! So worth it!

Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She happily went on whatever tangents we were interested in. It was fun to get her perspective on some art controversies as well. Worth every penny.
