The Albergo Paola is a wonderful hostel, and definitely one of the better ones that I and my friend stayed in during our trip to Italy. There are no single or double rooms, but the mixed dorm room we stayed in was lovely, clean and cozy. Internet access is provided for free, although there isn't much space to sit down and use the computer!
The one complaint I would have is the noise from the street. As everywhere else in Italy, Vespas are the mode of transport of choice, and they make a lot of noise at all hours, which makes it difficult to sleep. But I would imagine the problem is the same everywhere in Florence.
The hostel is very centrally located, only a five minute walk from the Galleria Dell'Accademia (which houses Michelangelo's David), and about ten minutes from the Duomo in one direction and the train station in the other. Florence is so small though that everywhere is pretty central! But it's very handy for getting in early to see David and skipping the queues that form throughout the day.
Overall, the hostel was lovely and our only annoyance was the street noise. But I would recommend it to any fellow backpackers.
