“Perfect Stay”
Reviewed 9 January 2012

Of all the places we stayed during our trip to Italy, this was our favorite. The staff was friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. Our room was spacious and overlooked the courtyard. To my surprise the basic room even has a Jacuzzi Tub!

The breakfast that is included was wonderful and dinner was well worth it. We ate dinner there all three nights which was perfect since we really did not feel like hunting down something new every night.

There was lots of free parking and the free shuttle to Florence was a nice added bonus.

I would love to come back here in the summertime and stay again (we visited in January).

We had the privilege of staying at Mulino di Firenze in October 2011 as part of our honeymoon. We loved loved LOVED the location. <sigh> Just a short 10 minute shuttle drive away from the heart of Florence. It was the perfect oasis from a busy day.
Our hotel room had a wonderful view of the Arno River and the Tuscan countryside, lovely art, interesting high end antique furniture, luxurious bathroom (including the soaps, products and cozy robes), and a most comfortable bed complete with an ornate, wrought iron headboard.
All of the staff were lovely and charming. From the front desk who were super helpful and interesting to the restaurant staff, who provided us with some of the most lovely service and food experiences we had in Italy. In particular, we would like to recognize the wonderful and gracious restaurant manager, Franco, and our favourite waiter, Aldo. We stayed at the Mulino di Firenze for three nights and dined at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner every day. Each event was beautifully presented, delicious and sincerely memorable. It was wonderful to see such a compatible and high functioning service team who were always professional and elegant.
What a honeymoon experience! We would come back to stay in a heart beat.

We loved our stay at the Mulino di Fireze while we were in Florence in August. It was a little difficult to find at first, but once we got there, it was the perfect place for us. The free shuttle service they offer to the city centre was very convenient and timely. Also, the on-site restaurant was fabulous! Our room was very nice and we were very comfortable there. Wi-fi worked on our laptop from our room so we could still keep in touch with everyone back home. The view from this hotel is incredible and the surroundings were peaceful and serene. All the hotel employees we interacted with were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay there again, if we should find ourselves back in Florence

Our stay a Mulino Di Firenze was disappointing, to say the least. When we were checking in the front desk was confused about our arrival data. They believed we were early by one day early, however I had emailed the hotel before we left to confirm. After a brief discussion the confusion was cleared up. The hotel itself is very nice. It's well kept and comfortable. However, it was very quiet and the staff was scarce. For example, we arrived after a long drive from Positano, checked in and went to the bar for some wine. There was no bartender and we had to ask the front desk to send someone. This had to be repeated every time we wanted another glass of wine. It wasn't a hassle, just an inconvenience. Not something you'd expect from a place like this.

The worst part of our stay a Mulino Di Firenze came at check out. We had to catch an early flight so we went down to check out at 4:30am. I had asked the concierge the day before if this would be ok and she said it would be fine. It took 45 minutes for them to check us out. He was struggling with the computer and appeared to be filling out forms. I repeatedly told the gentleman at the front desk that we had a flight to catch and he said "just a few more minutes" each time. Finally, after 45 minutes, we told him that we had to leave or we were going to miss our flight. He totaled our bill up on a calculator and charged my credit card. He told me that they would email me my receipt, which they did a few days later. I was not the way we expected the day to begin.

Pros: Great breakfast, pool for summer looks great, nice rooms, large bathrooms, free parking with plenty of spaces.

Cons: Front desk and concierge service was not good. At check-in none of the hotels amenities were mentioned to us. Shuttle service only runs till 7:30pm so it's impossible to have dinner in Florence and catch the shuttle back. It's obvious that they would like you to have dinner at the hotel, which we did one night. The food and service was fine, but the restaurant itself was quiet and dull. It’s about a 15 minutes shuttle ride to Florence, which means you are our in the countryside. The Turkish bath had only a steam room and a sauna, that’s all.

Overall: We were not impressed, and will not stay here again when we visit Florence next. We do not recommend this hotel.

Dear Matthew M.,

thank you for taking the time to post your comment on Tripadvor.

I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience you encountered at the check out time and have not enough words to express my apologies
.
Please be informed, Ian Smith, the night concierge, felt terribly sorry for his action, his behaviour was unforgivably thoughtless.

New standard procedures and staff training have been put in place to avoid future cases like that one.

It has been an unforeseen event, and I hope this will not put a shadow on the overall stay at the Mulino di Firenze.

With the hope to see you at the Mulino di Firenze in the near future, am at your service for any additional information you may require.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Carniani

Staying at the Hotel Mulino di Firenze in Florence Italy exceeded my expectations. This quaint hotel is located in a quiet and remote section of Florence and adjacent to the Arno River. It was a little difficult to find in the dark, but well worth the effort. We were greeted immediately by their staff who helped us with the luggage as I parked the car in their garage across the street. Even their garage was the cleanest that I have ever seen before. Our room overlooked the Arno River, which we thoroughly enjoyed by opening the windows at night and drifting off to sleep listening to the water break over the dam. The breakfast was most satisfying with all of the food group choices and impeccable service. We had dinner in the same restaurant both nights of our stay and found it to be equally enjoyable. They offer a shuttle into city center of Florence, but we did not have time to try it out. We spent our time roaming the hills of Chianti which was easily assessable from this hotel since it is located on the Southern part of the river. A exquisite gem of a hotel next to the metropolis of Florence, but at the entrance to the Chianti region of fine wines.

Room Tip: A room facing the River

We adored everything about this hotel -- the views, the staff, the food, the decor, and the respectful restoration of the old mill! The well-appointed rooms are "tucked away" -- down various halls -- and up differing flights of stairs -- so that your room feels very private. The views of the river, olive groves, and distant hills are lovely during both sunrise and sunset. The location is very quiet at night, while only a ten-minute ride (on the hotel shuttle) into the historic center of Florence. The fabulous breakfast includes a delicious selection of pastries and breads; cold meats, cheeses and cereals; yogurts; juices, teas, and coffees; and yes, even American bacon and eggs! During our September stay of eight nights, we ate dinner in the restaurant on four occasions (and particularly enjoyed the chef specials). We also grew immensely fond of the hotel bartender (Emilio), who not only attentively prepared and served our drinks (and snacks) wherever we decided to view the sunset, but also graciously answered our many questions! Don't forget to make your shuttle reservations as soon as your know your schedule -- and book your stay well in advance! There are only 37 rooms in this jewel -- and they do fill up! During our stay, we met other guests from England, Germany, and America (everyone is very friendly). We will forever cherish our time at the Mulino!!

Room Tip: When we arrived, I asked the staff to show me several "available" rooms before deciding on...

I just loved this hotel ... I felt home there. It is beautifully restored and I enjoyed being by the river, away from the crowds that invaded Firenze. I could really have some rest there by their pool and had delicious meals at their restaurant.
Breakfast was perfect and dinner was very nice with the garden/river view at sunset... veeeery romantic!!!
Their staff is great and very competent and rooms and bathrooms were very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated.
