Description: At La Bottega del Buon Caffe we have been producing seasonal authentic Florentine dishes for years. Yet, the summer of 2014 marks the start of a new era as the Buon Caffe team launch a selection of exciting new organic and gourmet concepts. In collaboration with the restaurant's new owners, Claus and Jeanette Thottrup, Buon Caffe's head chef, Antonello Sardi, has successfully developed fresh and innovative gourmet menus which are now available both at lunch and dinner. With the emphasis on natural locally sourced ingredients, Buon Caffe offers authentic Tuscan food that creatively combines the best of classic and contemporary cuisine. Authenticity and honesty is at the heart of all we create at Buon Caffe and our menus are created individually according to the season. Today's catch of fresh fish is delivered from the Mediterranean daily, free-range meats are supplied by local artisan farmers and our vegetables, fruit, herbs and honey are bought from our farm in the country. Respecting our Florentine location our menus are designed to reflect the region's unique gastronomic heritage and vibrant culinary culture.

“Oasis of calm”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

On a hot summers day in Florence you could simply not find a better spot for calm and chilled out lunch with friends. A stunning restaurant, very chic and beautifully decorated. Chilled prosecco was magically offered on arrival. Then we enjoyed a truly stunning tasting menu. For me the service was sensational and the comfort and attention wonderful, I was made to feel like I was the only guest in the world and treated like a VIP. As for the food, god, where to start. Mouthwatering prawns with pea and orange sauce, Amberjack fish trio with tartar, amazing. Then to complete this heavenly experience I was blown away by the little trio of creme brûlée, where I had the most unforgettable coffee and pistachio versions, to die for. 10 out of 10 on every level. Very romantic, elegant and truly welcoming. This little gem takes Tuscan cuisine to a whole new level of gastronomy. I would be very surprised if a Michelin star wasn't just around the corner!

“Great dining experience in Florence”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

I have been living in Florence for almost four years, and I would always pass in front of this restaurant on my way to work. Yesterday I decided to make a reservation and try it out, and I was not disappointed. I went for their 6 course menu with 6 glasses of wine. The food was amazing, combining different flavors and textures (such as the beef tartar with gelato); the wine selection was as impressive as the meal itself. This has been one of the best dining experiences I had in this city.

“New Management - Same Great Food!”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

This would have been our fifth meal at La Bottega del Buon Caffe' in just over 14 months.

The most remarkable difference between the "old" and the "new", is the complete remodelling of the restaurant to bring it in line with the sophistication and charm of Borgo Santo Pietro.

The menu had been refined and offers patrons both an a la carte selection but also the opportunity to try a four, six or eight course degustation menu, which comes with matched wines.

We chose to go for the four course degustation but added two a la carte dishes that we knew from experience tasted fantastic and were our "litmus" test menu items to compare "old" and "new".

The paired wines for all six courses was perfect, as was the food. The portions were perfect, well balanced and thoroughly enjoyed.

We were offered a glass of prosecco on arrival and also were lucky enough to be offered a fantastic glass of a Carmignano Riserva 1999 "Piaggia". It was divine!

We expect some people will question the remodelling of the restaurant, while others will question the shift of the lunch menu to serve the same cuisine as the dinner menu. Others may want the extensive wine list back. We were well and truly happy all around. The price. The service. The food. It was all fantastic!

Will we be back - most definitely yes. We still maintain the view that "Enoteca Pinchiorri" has a serious challenger at hand and better watch out, because we view the food on par if not better.

“Under New Management”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

As stated in a previous review, this has been my favorite restaurant in Florence for more than six years. One of the charming things about lunch at La Bottega del Buon Caffe' has been the atmosphere due to it being family owned and run. The parents were waiting tables and chatting in the small dining room, son Francesco, the chef extrodinaire, was in the kitchen and other son Donovan, wherever he was needed. My husband had told me of plans to remodel and open under new management, so today I tried it for lunch. The place has been totally remodeled with a much more elegant and refined touch, the counter selling gourmet candies and delicacies taken away and we were greeted by the new manager, clad in a black suit. I will have to say the food was delicious, well prepared and beautifully presented. But the prices have been raised significantly, the menu is greatly changed with a three course lunch menu of the day offered at €35 and very few selections, all highly priced, off the a la carte menu. The fixed price dinner menus range from €50-85 per person not including beverages. We were told chef Francesco is now cooking in an exclusive spa/resort near Siena. (It is this same resort that has taken over the management of La Bottega del Buon Caffe'.) Would I return? Maybe yes, but as a very special occasion choice due to price and more formal atmosphere. Unfortunately the experience of having a meal in a family run business with a charming, quirky atmosphere, the chef coming to the table to answer questions or simply greet guests, is no longer at this venue. It is no longer a place to get a delicious and reasonable lunch in a family bistro. I do wonder how it will survive in its neighborhood location well away from the tourist area. There seemed to be no local people eating there today, only foreigners, as most Italians cannot afford the prices.

Cara Reets,

“Outstanding!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We had a simply delightful meal at this establishment. It was our best meal in Florence. The street is busy but the establishment is an oasis inside, and we had lovely personal attention from the restaurant manager. The wine pairings were thoughtful and delicious.
