Neighbourhood: Duomo
Description: Located just off the Piazza del Capitolo (Duomo) - south side, between the front of the Duomo and Giotto's Tower. Excellent menu selection with the best pesto and best bolognese we have ever tasted. Very reasonably priced (we ate there at lunch time) and very good service.

“Fantastic Find”
Reviewed 20 March 2013

It's a bit disappointing to see negative reviews on here, because this was one of our favorite restaurants on our recent trip. It's a hole-in-the-wall with a handwritten and photocopied menu, but the food is actually closer to typical Italian food than you'll find most places. The dishes are simple and unfussy -- furthermore, these will not be like dishes at the "Italian" places you go at home. The food was a bit more expensive than I would have liked, but we had excellent service and a friendly waiter. As Florence goes, this is a good place to get away and have good food.

“not a good experience”
Reviewed 9 January 2013

We ate here on a Saturday afternoon. The location is good, close to the Duomo, but that may be the problem. Between the three of us we had the spaghetti bolognese, spaghetti carbonara, and tortellini bolognese. Mine tasted fairly nice but they were very skimpy with the sauce. The spaghetti bolognese especially literally had a single spoonful of meat sauce. The bread was tasteless and dry and we were charged for it, though we never asked for it. 6 euro. There are so many average restaurants in Florence with amazing food. This one is a mistake. I would avoid it.

“Very very average.”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

I wouldnt go as far as to say it was awful. I personally don't feel that you would have a truly awful meal when in a land of such culinary delights.

This place has a small outdoor seating area, just tucked away from the main square. You are still under the shadow of the Duomo but away from the touristic draws of the main square restaurants and prices.

We had some antipasto - meats and cheese etc for starters. It wasnt bad, wasnt exceedingly good, just average.
We both ordered pasta from the primi platti selection, one carbonara, one clams and these dishes were of a perfectly acceptable standard. Pasta is pasta and there was nothing offensive about these dishes. The chocolate ice-cream was lovely and the waiter also recommended cantucci and il santo for another dessert which I really enjoyed.
The meal was very reasonably priced. The pasta was about 8 euros a dish as I remember.
I assume its very easy to become food snobs in such a place as Florence, which is fine if thats what you want to spend your time doing when there. However , don't be put off by average - its a cosy place with a fairly good standard of food. We didn't leave thinking it was overpriced or the food was bad. It was convenient, we were tired from travelling and it served a purpose. I would have eaten there again.

“Awful food, small portions”

Very small portions of awful, too salty food. Only thing that had any taste was parmesan. Avoid this place.

“Poor food quality”
Reviewed 16 June 2012

We thought we'd stop in to enjoy the outdoor dining and slightly lower prices than other places with a duomo view for lunch. Not a good idea. The pizza was completely undercooked and the salad was very basic for the price.

Just another tourist trap near a big attraction with below average food. Go somewhere else.
