Owner description: There is plenty of sun, shade, singing birds and whispering fountains in one of Florence's largest and most beautiful gardens, which are located behind the massive Pitti Palace.

I would recommend buying a “combined” ticket to get in to here (this includes entrance to the Uffizi and Pitti) because it would work out that you pay less than the €10 they charge you. Once you are in the gardens are beautiful and clearly well maintained. Perfect for an afternoon stroll.

You can visit for 10 euros ticket the Garden of Boboli and the Museum of Porcelain at Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The garden is beautiful. You can take selfies in the green all around you, and the Museum of Porcelain is a jewel. Cups and plates are both history and art. Next time I will choose to visit the Museum of Modern Art at the same Palazzo Pitti.

The layout and views are incredible. If you visit in the summer take some water with you as it is hot and the gardens cover a large area. The gardens are based around a hillside which we found to be very exhausting.

The Boboli Gardens are situated behind the Pitti Palace. Tickets are obtained from the Pitti Palace office although they do not have a brochure. Being an elevated site the gardens offered a nice viewpoint over the city. We climbed around to an amphitheatre with formal gardens stretching behind it, and views of the back of the palace in front of it. There was the Neptune fountain but alas it was not running. We soon discovered that none of the fountains were running which was a disappointment. There was another level area across from the amphitheatre. There was a giant head sculpture here and some more nice views over Florence. The paths were scattered with various sculptures. Some were in good condition but many had damage to them. Nor was there much signage advising of what they were.
We followed the cypress lined main path steadily down the hill towards the little island and the fountain of Oceanus. The gates were topped by goats but the water was pretty dirty and the island itself was closed off. We seemed to be too early in the season for the fountains. Scattered around this circular space were various statues and plenty of seating although again some of it was missing. This led to the last open space called the Hemicycle garden. We exited via the Porta Romana. Overall a very enjoyable green space.

We went in June around noon. It was not, which made the climb up the multi layered garden quite an ordeal. And frankly there was nothing special there to make the effort worthwhile. No flowers, no.manicured or unusual shrubbery, poorly kept lawns, no functioning fountains. Just a series of layered green sections. If you are going to the top for a view of city skyline, you can get a better one for free from the Piazza Michelangelo. And for green patches, better to go along the Arno and sit on the green grass watching the river.
Boboli gardens - clearly a 'not recommend' from us.
