My daughter and stayed in the Hotel Medici in July. We had a lovely room facing a convent so it was so peaceful. Great (working!!) air conditioning! Staff absolutely fantastic especially the extremely helpful concierge!!!!!! The courtesy bus was helpful because it was often too hot to walk down town! The pool was absolute wonderful!!!!! The only drawback was the quite overpriced breakfast though I will admit it was very tasty and the setting was fabulous. Overall great stay and would recommend it to anyone! Also I'm looking forward to staying there again next year!
PS Don't expect a a luxurious spa because it was just a sauna and steamroom.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the convent!

We stayed at Grand Hotel Villa Medici for our honeymoon. The design and style of the hotel didn't take our breath away when we first arrived, but the service is impeccable and because the hotel is not in a touristy area, makes a perfect escape. Reception were very friendly and extremely helpful, and lounging by the pool was brilliant and very appreciated in 40 degree C weather! The courtesy car will give you a lift into the centre of town in the mornings and evenings - not necessary as it is only a 10 minute walk, but a really nice touch.

My teenage son and I stayed at Grand Hotel Villa Medici in early July for five nights, which was not long enough! We had a wonderful time! The hotel is really lovely, with excellent facilities and extremely friendly and helpful staff, who were always aware of our needs without ever being obtrusive. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was lovely, very clean and well equipped, with very comfortable beds. The hotel is perfectly located- only a ten to fifteen minute stroll to the Ponte Veccio, along the beautiful River Arno. We brought with us the very helpful Lonely Planet guide book, which directed us to some fabulose places to eat and gave us all sorts of tips on how to get the best of our short stay. We absolutely loved Florence and would most definately stay at Grand Hotel Villa Medici again- I really cannot fault it. Expect to pay a lot to eat at the hotel, but the food is very good. Also, our breakfast, which was excellent, was included in the price of the room (contrary to what others have said- I also can't understand the fuss over paying for wi fi- why would anyone want to waste time on computers when visiting such a wonderful city). The hotel courtesy car is available but everything is within walking distance and you can see so much more this way, so we didn't bother with it. Hopefully, we can return again soon- next time with my husband and daughter too.

Great hotel - great service (helped get event/museum tickets, dinner reservations, directions, etc.) and had a car available during the day to take us to locations. Nice touch.

Personnel at front desk and concierge desk were not only helpful but very friendly. Restaurant personnel were also great - delivered food and drinks not finished to our room.

Room was large even by US standards. Wi-fi throughout the hotel worked very well.

Garden/pool area makes you feel like you are outside the city. Very relaxing.

We were 10 minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio and all the historic district. Yet, we did not have the noise of that area. Good location.

Room Tip: Don't eat breakfast in the hotel. Two great local pasticerrias within five minutes walk. Great l...

My husband and I spent three nights here in July. We had a wonderful stay! Took advantage of breakfast every morning, took advantage of the courtesy car to take us to the Ponte Vecchio (which is within easy walking distance although we elected to ride as it was a long day of exploring Florence). We walked back from the Ponte Vecchio later that day in about ten minutes. It was within walking distance to the train station (where we walked one day to catch a train to Lucca and then Pisa).

In summary, the staff couldn't have been more friendly, the hotel more convenient or beautiful! We would absolutely stay here again!!

We were upgraded upon arrival to suite 333/334 which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. This was quite a highlight of he stay. Of course for the price I would have expected nothing less. (if we had only received a standard room I can imagine I may have been disappointed.)

However, it is not in the center of Florence like the Savoy or others and requires another 15 mins of walking to the center. They do have a courtesy car but it operates during certain hours and we did not use it.

Service of the staff was extremely good and attentive at all times. Restaurant service was exquisite and always attentive.

Rooms were tastefully decorated but we would try somewhere different if we were to visit again.
Two nights we were disappointed with concierges dining recommendations. First night hotel obviously had an affiliation with restaurant (we learned most hotels do in Florence). Restaurant was full and all tables were filled with tourists. Not one person at any table spoke Italian. Only the waitstaff! Food was fair. Second night we requested a "family style" casual restaurant as we were 8 people with children..we were sent to a restaurant owned by the Ferragamo family with wine prices at 300-400 euros. Not at all what we were looking for. Food was good but it was VERY high end AND expensive! At hotel wifi is available for a cost. Hotels should provide free access to wifi. It was the only property we stayed at on our holiday with a fee. Breakfast is also NOT included in the room rate. Hotel should consider including both breakfast and Internet access when charging over $400 per room (we had two rooms). Pigeons are very aggressive near pool area. A pigeon landed in the center of our table to help itself to snacks.

Dear Lori K,

We thank you very much for sharing with us your impressions about your recent stay at Grand Hotel Villa Medici. We are sorry to learn you were dissatisfied about some dinner suggestions offered by our Concierge. As you have experienced, Florence is very small and in all my honesty it is very difficult to find good, but not touristy restaurants in downtown. I have anyway addressed the problem to our Head Concierge Massimo to pay more and more attention on details and needs, especially for the families.

I can guarantee that we welcome all your constructive criticism with regard to the breakfast and internet connection, as it helps us to get better and to go beyond Guest expectations.
I really look forward to having a second opportunity to welcome you to Grand Hotel Villa Medici and in which case I will be extremely honoured to arrange personally your future stay.

A presto,
