We booked this hotel because it was part of Leading Hotels of the World and had a pool. Being in Firenze in august, you have to have a pool for cooling down.

At our arrival we were greeted by the doorman. The poor man must be over 60. Having to get our bags out of the car was a painful sight.
Reception was very helpful from our arrival till departure. They gave us really good restaurant tips.
Room itself was good size but a little bit outdated. Curtains must be washed. They are so full of dust you almost can't see outside.
Breakfast was disappointing. Had to pay for fresh orange juice (the one they serve is undrinkable). Not much choice of pastries, fruits etc.

But the biggest problem!! We gave our car to be parked away. this cost you 50 euro per night. For this price you think you will get good service. When we asked for our car we had to wait for more then 30 minutes. When car arrived the guy from the parking parked our car backwards so the luggage could easily be putted in the booth, he even got the doors passenger side open. We waited so long we hurried to get away. BIG MISTAKE. When we arrived at our next hotel we saw that the front headlight and bumper were missing parts (that's why he parked backwards) and the passenger side doors were having scratches (that's why he opened the doors). Having left for several hours we couldn't blame the hotel any more. This joke cost us 700 euro's. Let this be a lesson.

Bottom line. Don't go there!

We are a family of five, with kids aged 6, 8 and 12 and spent 3 nights there
We really appreciated the two communicating rooms, that are not so frequent. So I would say this is family-friendly on this point. We booked two deluxe rooms with outstanding views on Firenze's roofs, esp the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Cappella Medicee ; you can view as well Fiesole on the North and Michelangelo terracce East. Magnificent sunrise landscapes and fantastic view, clearly. Accomodation of the rooms was a 5-star classic and it does worth it.
Pls be aware that the swimming pool (the only outside pool within historic center however) is quite small, but clearly a plus in Summer to refresh after a day of sightseeing.
We had very limited interaction with the staff, and no real piece of advice ; they were not proactive
Health club very disappointing at this standard level (5 star, LHW) : turkish bath was nearly cold !
Even if we are used to travel in Leading Hotels of the World chain, we found the food very expensive and not kids-friendly at all : breakfast in the room was charged an additional 12€ and consisted of very standard food (pastries, bread, orange juice not fresh and coffee). Dinner menu does not offer any specific meal for kids (once again, we have many experience where, in a 5-star hotel, they can offer kids a nice meal + dessert for €20/25 ; not here) hence, like many other families in the hotel, we found an excellent restaurant 50m from the hotel.
Location : be aware you will need around 25mn walking to go to the Uffizi ; 10mn only for Santa Maria Novella
Our "Average" rating just keeps in mind this is a 5-star, Leading Hotel of the World, hotel

Room Tip: on level 5, you can get fantastic views on the Historic Center of Firenze

The hotel has a pool ! It is quite unique in Florence. The pool area is charming. The restaurant is next to it. The food is not good and totally overpriced. Breakfast is average and totally overpriced. The rooms in a 1970 style are quite comfortable but not the charm we would expect. I guess there are better rooms in the hotel. The concierge was very efficient and helpful. There are many better options in Florence.. Except if you want a pool in the center.

This hotel was not the cheapest place that we have stayed in (EUR 345 per night for 2 nights and EUR 240 for the other nights, not including breakfast) but it was one of the loveliest. Everyone working there has the italian sense of panache, be it the doorman in his smart uniform or the men behind the desk in their morning coats, and the staff are all very good at their work. The entrance foyer is round with a beautiful inlaid table of various marbles adorned by a dramatic and colourful flower arrangement and around this vestibule statues are set into wall displays.

Our room was pleasant with a lovely large bathroom overlooking part of the hotel garden and the churchyard next door where we could see the nuns praying daily in their long black habits. As breakfast wasn't included in our package and was quite pricey at the hotel, it was suggested to go to a little cafe close by and pick up an espresso, a savoury brioche and a little something sweet, which we did at a fraction of the cost.

Villa de Medici is centrally located and as we love walking, we breakfasted locally then walked around Florence for hours, including one day to the Boboli Gardens, which are stunning and where, from the top you have an outstanding panorama over the city. From our base here, we also took day trips to Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa.

We were recommended to eat at "Buca Mario Restaurant" and although pricey, the food was very good. Normally we ate at local cafes, where the mains were around 7-10 euros and just as good. The hotel is well situated and I would highly recommend it.

This was a truly stunning hotel. Located in one of the real Medici palaces. A beautiful property near the city centre. The courtesy bus whisked us into the centre when we felt unable to tackle the 20 minute walk. The pool was a true oasis of luxury and so was the fitness centre - away from the hustle and bustle of the steamy busy city. The rooms were luxurious and well equipped and the staff obliging yet not over-bearing. The breakfast was included in the price of our stay and proved to be excellent value for money for the overall standard that we were able to enjoy. The cost of breakfast is expensive if paid locally and so are the costs of the bar food and drnks, but this is to be expected in a hotel of this standard and can be avoided. I visited the hotel with my two children, aged 11 and 15 and both loved it. Whilst being a very high standard property it is not stuffy and we were all made to fell very welcome. Generally it was a delight and I would love to go there again. It made a very comfprtable and relaxing base to explore Florence.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed quit, but we requested a quite room, you never know with city hotels!
