I went to the Grand Hotel Villa Medicis with my son and husband at the end of the summer, after spending a week sightseeing the beautiful Toscana countryside. The hotel has an ideal location near Florence’s top attractions. Even though the Villa Medicis is at a walking distance from downtown, it’s isolated from the crowds that gather around the museums, churches and historical places. An island of peace and luxury in the middle of Florence! My little kid enjoyed a lot the swimming pool and a couple of times we had our lunch by the beautiful garden. We had our best Italian dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. Great food and service: just perfect!

My girlfriend was very happy to stay at this hotel with its little pool. We booked another hotel and were informed that they were full and upgraded us to this hotel *which was father from city center than the original*.

The pool was certainly the highlight of the hotel. Very nice, but honestly just too small (never enough room on the lounge chairs). The concierge recommended several wonderful restaurants. I was happy with the food suggestions, the girlfriend was happy with the pool.

Don't hesitate to stay here. We booked a garden view room and we were given a double upgrade to a 5th floor suite with views overlooking the Duomo. Our balcony was completely private and large. The room had very high domed ceilings and was beautifully decorated. The pool was a welcomed oasis from the July heat of Florence and was breezy. The service was excellent. Everyone called us by name. The restaurant is romantic. We ate outside overlooking the pool at night. The pool grounds are lit up at night and it is very nice. We were within walking distance to The Uffizi, Academia, Boboli Gardens, Ponte Vecchio, shopping and anything else you may want to see in Florence. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel and it was an excellent value in Italy.

A grand Hotel in the old style. Warm greeting with tour of hotel. Upgraded on arrival to next best room - with a large balcony. Slightly worn at edges but that is normal for this type of hotel.

Room not the largest but with large balcony. Flat screen TV. Bathroom good with unbranded Santa Maria Novella Phamacy toiletries.

Breakfast OK. Not large choice but more than adequate and very good quality. Waiters provided fresh tomatoes when asked. Newspapers sometimes available sometimes not.

Concierge very friendly.

Hotel on edge of town rather than central but easy walking distance. Lots of greenery from garden which has a (unheated) small pool. Restaurant expensive (as expected for 5* hotel).

We stayed at the Villa Medici this past July (finally catching up on all my reviews). We booked last minute; while in Rome, we realized a pool would be a nice amenity after a hot day of sightseeing. We were originally booked for a different hotel in Florence. I lucked out and got a great rate for the hotel on expedia- $250/night. Seeing as this is supposed to be one of the LHW, I was pleased! The lobby was beautiful, and the concierge was very helpful, though they did send us to a touristy restaurant when we specifically requested the opposite, and we ended up walking out (highly recommended restaurants that we loved were Buca Mario and Ristorante del Fagioli). The room was fine with a nice large bathroom. Decor was a bit outdated, and there was quite a film of dust on the glass top nightstand. Again, not what you might expect from a LHW. For the price, it was fine for us, but I would not pay any more than that. Had we paid rack rate, I would have been very upset. All in all, it is a nice hotel, but certainly not a LHW.
