Owner description: Erected during Roman times, this is the most ancient and photographed bridge in Florence, which is characterized by three arches and two wide arcades on each side housing the famous and unusual "botteghe" or shops.

This is nothing special other than the history. It's actually quite ugly to look at but a photo is a must. A stroll across the bridge takes you past numerous jewellery shops and that's it. It does get very, very crowded on the bridge so just be aware of your belongings at all times.

Actually this is an average bridge with some jewelery shops on it. Nothing special but somehow it is famous. After crossing the bridge you should visit Piazzale Michalangiolo. It has a beatiful view.

The area around and on the Ponte Vecchio bridge is just lovely but BEWARE of Pick Pockets. My father was victim to a pick pocket on the bridge and my mother's passport and wallet were stolen from his napsack. Fortunately, the US Consulate was open the next day and we had a new passport for my mother by noon. You will need a 2x2" passport photo in order to get a new passport. Nearby the Piazza San Marco there is a Kodak photo shop that will take the passport photo to the proper specifications.

This is a cool bridge with quaint shops . . . but it is crowded and the prices are jacked up to compensate for the locale.

You have to go for the experience and to try to imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago, but your shopping can all be done elsewhere at a lot less expense.
