“Excellent location and very good to stay with family”
Reviewed 20 March 2012 via mobile

This hotel is in an excellent location within 5 min by taxi from the train station (9 Euros) or you can even arrive walking but it will be tricky to carry the baggage trough the small roads.
The location is 1 block from two main squares (where the main tower and cathedral is and the Republica square is) and less than 7 min walking distance of the main museums.
Everything is walking distance and there are many good restaurants near by.
The rooms are simple but very clean and the good thing is that they have a room for the whole family (2 adults and 2 kids).

The staff here is excellent, very friendly and welcoming! Perfect location that is within walking distance to everything, even the train station, although I would recommend taking the short cab ride if you have heavy luggage. Rooms are bright and clean. Free wi-fi for Rick Steves readers and a minimal charge if not. There are also 2 computers with internet access for guests in the lobby. FYI the elevators are quite small and the blow dryer in the bathroom is basically just a hose in the wall, these are not major issues and were actually pretty comical - but its always good to know before you go!

Hotel Maxim was no thrills, but for the price and location, you really can't beat it. The reception staff was always pleasant and welcoming. The lobby had 2 computers w/ internet, which was great for researching aspects of our trip. The room we had (for 4, but we only had 3 staying) was spacious. The beds were not the most comfortable, but nothing that I hadn't expected. The room felt a little institutional, but it was clean, safe and in a great location (two blocks from the Duomo). We were three girls in our 20's and never did we feel uncomfortable or at risk in this area or with this staff. If you are a no frills, budget traveler, this is a great place to stay.

Stayed October 13-17th. Fantastic location within very short walking distance to the Duomo , Uffizi, and Ponte Vecchio. Ida at the desk was super helpful and attentive to our needs, providing bus schedule info , directions, and reccomendations. Very typical of the Hotels/B&B's in the area. Includes a small but adequate breakfast of pastries, fruit and yogurt. Comfy Bed, TV and private bathroom in the room, and free internet in the lobby. Perfect for those that are looking to save a little on accomodations and spend more time and money enjoying Florence/Tuscany. If you are looking for a luxury hotel , or something similar to a Marriott, you will be dissapointed. If you have travelled a lot internationally and are looking for a clean , centrally located place to stay with B&B charm and a friendly staff, you will be extremely happy with Hotel Maxim. Would stay there again and recommend it to others.

This is less of a hotel and more of B&B really although they do have a reception facility till 1am. We have booked a quad room meant for 4 people for just us 2 so cant complain on the space although I wonder what it would be like if 4 people actually stayed in the room, perhaps a little crowded. There are no porters you can have to carry your own luggage first up the foyer steps to the elevator and then if like us you are give the top floor then another flight of stairs from there as there are no elevators till there. This being done, you walk and walk through narrow corridors to reach your room.
The room is dimly lit and for all accounts it is quite run down and dingy although clean. The bathroom is clean and spacious but again a little run down. A tiny TV runs just one channel and there are of course no tea/coffee ingredients in room but neither were we expecting the same from an establishment of this kind. They did not have free wi fi but had 2 free internet points in the reception which were very useful. The reception area with books and dining table was cosy and gave the feeling of being in someone’s living room rather than a hotel which we really liked. The front desk staff were always polite and smilingly answered our questions, they also reserved us tickets to the Uffizi and Academia with just an email from us before we arrived.
The breakfast however was not even basic, they did not even have toast. Just croissants, 2 cereals and normal coffee, no cappuccino. Given its Italy they may consider investing in a cappuccino machine as I was really not expecting to have a bad coffee in Italy. Even the fresh fruits with 2 or 3 in selection (a bowl of canned chopped fruits was available). They really need to upgrade their breakfast.
The hotel is full of paintings and charming furniture and has a cozy feeling and best part of the stay here is the location. Located really beside the Duomo on a busy street its near Uffizi and the Old Bridge and good restaurants and shops (ask the hotel for recommendations on where to eat, its also full of awful tourist traps). Although Florence is small and really you can walk everywhere, if your trip is short like ours was, it helps to stay somewhere so well located. If you want to avoid street noise you can always ask for a room at the back of the hotel. The bed was okay as were the sheets, the cover was a bit dirty so we just put it aside.
Although there were several major cons we liked Maxim primarily due to its location and courteous staff. You can walk back from a good meal without worrying about getting a taxi and a smiling face at the front desk really does make a difference.

I would definatley reccomend anyone to stay at Hotel Maxim! It is extremely good value for staying right in the center of Florence. It is clean, well run by helpful staff. A continental breakfast is also included in the price. Florence is full of fabulous shopping, so spend the money you save on finding that special leather item!!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms that does not face the main street. They are quieter

The location was excellent, the room clean and comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast good. A room that faces onto the street can be noisy an interior room would be quieter. Very good value.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room that doesn't face onto the street
