If you are in Florence, you simply have to see Michelangelo's masterpiece, David. You just have to....but it's worth it. A good guide is a key if you can. A lot of the group tours will have "skip the line" offerings, for which I strongly recommend. There are other works from Michelangelo here to, but David steals the show - and the reason for going.

Let’s be honest here.....there is really only one reason why anyone comes here and that is to see the Statue of David. It is worth it to be frank.
Stunning in its majesty and pure genius - obligatory selfie required for all. I got here early for the opening so very little waiting involved. Book in advance if you want a lie in and make sure you join the right queue.

Amazing place! Buy tickets ahead of time on line and then you can walk right in and no standing in line for hours! David is amazing! Michelangelo was brilliant!

If you are like me, you've read about and heard about the David statue. You know it has to be pretty good to gather so much attention. You've heard others talk about what a great work of art it is. But, until you've actually seen it (at least me) you cannot understand the masterpiece that it is. From the moment you see it down the long corridor until you are taking a 360 degree look up close, you know that creating this out of one large piece of marble was just part of the story for genius Michelangelo. It's worth the wait in line, but I'd recommend buying a tour and skipping the line. Plus, the guide can provide you with all the details that make you realize how special this is.

The magnificence of David alone is worth the visit. But there are rooms of additional sculptures, busts and paintings for those that love renaissance culture. Skip the line with a guide is however a must if you wish to get the most out of the experience.
