“A Treasure Trove”

The Bargello is a must see. Smaller than the Uffizi, its collection of sculptures and delightful ivories, jewels, and metalwork, as well as its outstanding paintings make this a wonderful alternative to the overwhelming behemoth of its sister museum. While there are only a few major monuments, they are critical to the history of Florence and should be seen. Do not miss this gem.

especially for the statutes. We took a private guide to make the most of it and it was well worth it.

“Always go here”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

This is perhaps the one museum in Florence which I have not, on any of my four visits to Florence, missed. And can't imagine failing to spend time there during any future visits! It's relatively small. But filled with gorgeous artworks - especially the beautifully displayed Renaissance sculpture. The museum building interiors provide lovely settings for the sculpture - as well as for the paintings and other art objects. And after a visit, before going out into the bustling (even in March!) streets of Florence, sitting in the serene courtyard in the middle is a calming and restorative interlude to which I always look forward.

The Donatellos and the Michelangelos are fantastic. The Donatello Davids are amazing. A lovely place to visit and easy to navigate.

“Spectacular”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

This is a fantastic place for kids and adults alike. The kids will get a kick out of the fact that it used to be a prison... and that the Medicis hung some poor guy's body out a window as a message to anyone who would try to overthrow them!

Inside the walls of the Bargello, you find the "other" Davids - both Donatello's and Verrochio's. They've got NOTHING on Michelangelo. Both of the David's in the Bargello look quite effeminate - and both, I believe, include Goliath's head. And knives (what happened to the sling shot).

The Bargello is actually good to do on the same day as the Accademia to compare the Davids.

There are, of course, other fabulous things to see there.
Bonus, nice little Italian ceramic store right across the street.
