This is a beautiful museum which has wonderful art works. However, it has been years since the second floor of the museum has been open when we have been in Florence. This time, I told my husband I would not visit this museum if the second floroor was not open.
After going through security, I went to the ticket booth and sure enough, the sign said the second floor was closed. I confirmed with the ticket seller that it was indeed closed, so I said we were not coming in. The woman said we could sign up for a free tour - in Italian - at 9:30, which would take us to the second floor. That is what we did, even though we neither speak nor understand much Italian.
We were the only two people on the tour. Since the guide spoke limited English, she merely took us from room to room on the second floor where we could FINALY see the most beautiful della Robbia ceramics and other great pieces of art which seemed to always be "under wraps."
