Good hotel but disrupted sleep

Review of Hotel Hermitage
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Sept 2017via mobile
A pleasant hotel with a great location, however one thing I hadn't read before booking is that there is a restaurant/bar on the corner playing loud music until late at night and lots of people smoking and shouting outside. We were only there two nights but would have really spoilt a longer break.
Otherwise the hotel was very clean and fine for a short break.

Pros: friendly staff. Small but comfortable rooms. Great location, of course. The terrace is the whole reason for staying there!
Cons: fan in bathroom can't be turned off. No view from some of the rooms. VERY noisy building (old house, creaking floor boards) and noisy alley/street outside. Staff accidentally walked into our room early in the morning waking us up; no apology afterwards. Breakfast is short (only until 10am) and medicre; apparently they make coffee and eggs etc to order but we were not told or offered this.

Although the location is very good and the rooftop balcony is a plus there are some real negatives as well. We got off to a real bad start. we walked into a bathroom and found a roach. began to consider unpacking, went back in and found and killed 2 more. showstopper. went to desk and informed them, they said Florence is an old city with an old plumbing system. That may be true but.... They did accommodate us by moving us to a different room, lower floor and we had no further issues. office is on the 5th floor. not convent whatsoever. the passenger elevator holds 1 person and 1 piece of luggage That is a real PAIN. If/when we go back we will try another hotel in the same general area. i do not recommend this hotel. DRM

I chose this hotel based on previous Tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The hotel is in the heart of Florence, close to the Ponte Vecchio and a pleasant stroll from the Duomo. We stayed here for 6 nights in a lovely room with a view over the River Arno. Our room was the perfect size and the bathroom was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked brilliantly during the heat of the Florence summer. The lounge area and roof top terrace were an added bonus and lovely places to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. Breakfast was in a delightful and sunny room and had everything you would need to set you up for the day. All the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and helpful - especially Jolanda who had a wealth of knowledge and provided us with information about places of interest and helped us with booking airport transfers and taxis. All in all my daughter and I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Hermitage and would be delighted to return.

Selected this hotel based on online reviews and location. It sits next to the beautiful Ponte Vecchio Bridge in the heart of Florence. Everything worth seeing is within walking distance. Only complaint was that three beds were crammed into a room made for two people and it was difficult to find space for luggage and one night the fire alarm went off but it was a false alarm. It was a little loud at night if you wanted to leave your window open due to pedestrian traffic below but room air conditioners worked great! A gorgeous view was offered on the rooftop garden sitting area!! Would recommend for location, breakfast and affordable price!

This place is 2 minutes from Pointe Vecchio and the hustle and bustle that is the incredible food, wine, art and music of beautiful Florence. Upon checking in, the delightful day manager, Jolanda, a multi-lingual blond headed beam of light checked us in. Fluent in many languages, her English was perfect as she, upon our request, detailed many near by restaurants in order to sample the fine Florentine cuisine. We inquired about music, and she stated " just take a stroll around Florence and you are bound to hear a symphony orchestra or pop music or anything being played out in the open". How right she was. A little on that later. Our room was exquisite, charming, big enough certainly, with a huge bathroom that looked out at a quaint and exciting small piazza. There is a roof top lounge as well, great for the final drink of the evening, as you gaze at the roof tops of Florence, bathed in the sounds and excitement from the Pointe Vecchio below. The staff was so accomodating and friendly. We stayed there during our four days/nights in Florence, and we would go back in a hot second. We found everything in Florence extremely economical, from the food and wine, to the leather goods and souvegneers. This hotel is no more than 5 minutes from the Uffuzi Gallery, a must see in Florence, 10 minutes from the Pitti Palace, also a must see not too promoted in many travel digests, and about 15-20 minutes to the Acadamia/ Michelangelo's David. The Hermitage is a nice little gem in a gem of a city, and the perfect midpoint to all that you will want to do in Firenze.
We did take a stroll our first night and found an incredible award winning youth orchestra from Scandinavia, playing out in the open in the Uffizi Courtyard, with 1000 year old Neptune looking over the whole proceedings. Another night we went to a different part of town to hear Paulo Conte, basically the Tony Bennett of Italy. We are already planning and saving to come back to the the Hermitage and all that is Florence in 2 years. You are dropped into a post card, and as the days and nights progress, you do not want to leave your little slice of heaven.
