But then this is Florence, you can't expect a top class hotel a few metres from the Ponte Vecchio not to come at a price. We stayed for one of our two nights and have no regrets. OK it's costly, but the staff are friendly and proud, great bar area and location superb. We had a first floor room above the entrance so could easily watch the street change as the day/night progressed. A rather random sculpture of red racing bikes climbing up the multi-storey building, and another bike/mirror related object in the square attracted a constant stream of tourists with cameras. If money is no object, then worth a weekender by all means.

Ok, the first time in Florence. The city with over 1800 restaurents and have not counted the hotels.
So what to book is the question.
We know that in a touristic place the wellknown hotel star rating could be experienced different then expected.
In this case we looked for an optimized location, close to the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno river. A modern hotel that could protect us from the "authentic and historical" pitfall.

We flew in via Pisa, nice and convenient. Took the 5 euro shuttle bus and within 1 hour you are at the central station in Florence. The hotel is a 10 minutes taxi drive.

The welcome at the reception was warm and personal. The room on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel, very nice and clean. All you expect from a classy business hotel.

The bed perfect, bathroom, clean and well decorated.
And even the minibar carried our favorate drinks as well:-)

First evening we had dinner in the Fusion, the modern restaurent in the hotel. We liked it a lot and price wise it was a good ratio!.

In short:
-location: perfect,
-personal attention: yes and with a smile
-atmosphere: modern, lounge style,
-room: nice, well decorated, might be a little bit small for some fellow travelers.
-bed and cleanliness: very good.
-hotel bar: perfect and well equiped,
-restaurant: very nice fusion style.

Yes, we would recommend the Gallery Art Hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quiet. We don't know the average sizes of the rooms, you may ask.

This is a very trendy boutique and Expensive hotel, part of a very upscale Salvatore Ferragamo chain. As such, expectations are high and frankly, this hotel did not live up to our expectations. We would likely choose another hotel next time. First the positives: 1). great location, 2). very good and accommodating staff, 3). excellent breakfast (highly advise prepaying and taking all your breakfasts there if you like a full American style breakfast.. Negatives: 1). the air conditioning is controlled by a central computer system and our room just never cooled down. If you open the windows, you let in mosquitos so we stopped doing that. 2). bed is hard, that's ok if you like hard beds but we were expecting something a bit more luxurious, as you would have at say a Westin hotel, 3). No coffee machines in the room nor free coffee available at the hotel. They should provide free coffee somewhere, 4). no free water bottles either.

This is an expensive hotel with few amenities to go with it. There are many others to choose from. That's what we will do next time.

This was our first stay at the Gallery Hotel Art, a chic, modern hotel near the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery, and other historic sights. It is quiet despite its central location. Owned by the Ferragamo family, it reflects true style and class. We had a comfortable double room with an upstairs bedroom. Ferragamo toiletries were in abundance in the two bathrooms. The one drawback during the three days we spent there was the air conditioning system, which was broken on arrival and remained so until departure. It was a little uncomfortable even in May. The management provided a fan and compensated us with free breakfasts, a free minibar, and a nice discount on departure. The excellent staff is friendly and attentive to clients' needs. We would gladly return.

Dear Timothy D.,
thank you very much for your great review!

We highly pride ourselves on our location as well as our friendly and accommodating staff.
We are really sorry for the inconvenient, really unexpected, with the air conditioning; the good news is that the team of engineers and technicians has changed completely the old system with a new one! We thank you so much for understanding our efforts in assisting at our best all our customers!

Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon!

Florence is a small place so for a hotel that sits right by the river in the centre of town I can see why it can become complacent. My friend and I checked in and were greeted with very average service. The staff were not particularly friendly nor knowledgeable but hey this is the Internet age so we were not bothered. I personally have high expectations to the staff who takes bags to the room as that is an easy task with a high chance of being tipped. However when the introduction was "pointing to the bathroom to let us know that is the bathroom" I was naturally disappointed. After the staff got his tip and left, we quickly noticed the room was stuffy and after realising the air conditioner wasn't working, my friend decided to go to the reception and make an enquiry. It was only then when I saw a letter on the desk informing us of a malfunction air conditioning system throughout the entire hotel. My friend returned to the room with the same message. Apparently we could drink for free (minibar), receive a 30 per cent discount on room rate plus 30 (?) per cent discount dining at the hotel restaurant etc. Anyway we decided to open the window to let some air in but being on the first floor meant it could be unsafe. We decided to ask for a room on a higher floor and we were given an exchange to a room on 5/F. We then packed and moved… throughout the time puzzling why couldn't any of the staff we met just mentioned this to us…

Anyway we moved, slept with window opened, most of the time awoke by noises in the alley the room faced (that included noises made by horse carriages, garbage truck and people…) but mosquito bites were the biggest showstopper. The following day we asked for another option and was offered to change to an adjacent sister hotel. We accepted so and moved.

All these hassle could have been easily avoided if any of the staff we encountered care to mention something along the lines of "… it is 20 plus degrees and would you be ok to accept some privileges but bear sleeping in a room with no air conditioning…?" For a hotel where a standard room costs £300 a night, one would expect attention to details. If you work at a hotel and do not understand how to do that, just place yourself in the customers' shoes. It is as simple as that.

Dear Customer,
an unexpected event happened during the days of your stay: suddenly, we had a breakage in the main air conditioning machine. An occurence that has never happened in our hotel.
We immediately went into action to try and assist - to the best - all our customers. I apologize for your inconveniences. I’m particurarly sorry you did not appreciete the solutions we proposed to you. We spent a few days with the desire to do our best just trying to use customer point of view. I'm very sorry that we did not comunicate - at the best - this feeling. I apoligize for this.

The good news is that the team of engineers and technicians have not only fixed the breakage but they replaced completely a new system... “Every cloud has a silver lining.”

I really hope to welcome you as soon as possible.

We have just had a 5 days stay at this hotel. So close to the Pontevecchio, down a side road and quiet. A quality hotel which is so central .We were minutes from the major sites. Friendly staff, and a wonderful buffet breakfast - you can choose to eat at their 2 hotels just across the road! My only complaint is that their brand of tea bags need to change! So weak and tasteless! I luckly bought my own from home. Hope they can change to Twinnings tea! We spoke to a fellow guest who agreed with us. The pillows were not very good quality either. We loved the little touches such as the salvatore ferragamo bath and shower gel accessories, and the tasty homemade biscuits which came with tea/coffee. We will return again without a doubt.

We spent 8 nights at the Gallery Art in April while visiting our daughter who was studying in Florence. We were given a large, lovely room overlooking a quiet courtyard with a huge bathroom. Our daughters were given a room across the hall, which held only the two rooms and was very private. I was concerned that the hotel would be noisy, it was absolutely quiet and restful. Beautiful decor.
The breakfast, served in the library/ breakfast room, was delicious and plentiful. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The Ferragamo toiletries and the complimentary admission to the Ferragamo Museum ( a must see) were a definite plus! If we ever return to Florence, there is no where else I would stay!

Room Tip: We booked a Gallery Deluxe room and were given one of the larger size rooms available. Our second r...
