Took a moment to work out why two queue's - for the from door is the free entry to walk around the inside, the fuller version is 9 euro through the side door - it's an amazing building and the photos don't really show the size of it, looks even better on the inside and is a great place to escape the sun for an hours or so.

Recommended if you want to visit less crowded church with view of Florence City. You can take bus no 12 from SMN St.

Not one of Florence's "masterpiece" basilicas, but extremely nice. If you have time, take the approximately 45 minute walk up from the Pitti Palace, along the meandering boulevard, rather that the steep climb up from the Arno. Arrive for 6:30pm vespers, in the chapel under the main altar, then walk down into the local neighborhood and back to the main part of town. Lots of good neighborhood places to eat.

Big ol hike up to the top... but totally worth the fabulous views of Florence... esp at sunset.
And the church is not the most ornate church there, but there is something about it... just peaceful, cool and lovely...

Il Duomo

The facade of this church is what makes it so spectacular. Inside is much more demure, which adds to the experience.

Since it's free it attracts the masses, so expect to queue and be herded around by the thousands of tourists.
