This was my favorite museum in Florence. I loved seeing the Fra Angelico frescos in their original context, with each monastic cell having its own fresco of a religious moment to meditate upon. Savonarola's cells and the Medici cell also very interesting.

Visiting this former monastery left us with a more spiritual feeling than many of the religious buildings we visited in Italy. The frescoes in each of the cells were all unique and beautiful representations of Christianity. We were moved by some of the relics and artifacts. This is not your usual church museum. It was not as crowded as most places we visited and was not very expensive. No inside photos allowed.

This museum, which features Fra Angelico's beautiful, peaceful work, is relatively small and not crowded, so that you can view the art at your own pace, a joy after the Uffizi!

The top of my wishlist for works of art I went to Florence to see: Fra Angelico's frescos of the life of Jesus. When you first climb the stairs and come face to face with his Annunciation, it's almost overwhelming. There are other great Annunciations in the city, but none quite as simple and moving as this.

These paintings (murals) are simply the most beautiful works, some deeply moving, fra angelico has a gift which is very special and you need time to linger where you are held spellbound.
