“The Florence experience and Tuscan Villa experience all in one!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2011

Before our trip we couldn't decide on a downtown Florence hotel or a countryside villa, and this turned out to be the perfect solution. It's a 30-minute downhill walk through their farm to the Pitti Palace. The building is spectacular and unique; it felt like living in history, with frescoed ceilings in the lobby. Very romantic. We began our stay with a poolside lunch service (excellent cold lunch, try vitello tonnato) with a spectacular view of all of Florence below (Duomo included). In 4 days we walked into town twice and walked up once, otherwise took cabs to the center of Florence and back. Breathtaking views of Florence and the Tuscan hills from rooms. Wonderful service from all staff. No air conditioning but plenty of mountain breeze through big windows. Breakfast on a lovely covered terrace with views. They have lobby Wifi although it wasn't working while we were there. We would have tried their restaurant except that we asked them to recommend another, which immediately became our favorite trattoria in Florence! (La Vecchia Bettola - easy downhill walk, but I recommend the cab back...) It's a bit pricey but very special. There are very few rooms so you will feel like family while you're there but it's private and quiet. It would easily be our first choice when we return to Florence.

Room Tip: Most (maybe all) rooms view the center of Florence

We stayed in the Tower Suite.....unbelievable 360 degree views of Florence and the hills of Tuscany. Much closer than Fiesole.

Very authentic stay with a friendly staff and beautuiful grounds and pool. You feel like a resident, more than a guest.

No restaurant, which is not great, but you have a very nice buffet breakfast on the loggia and a simple lunch is served at the pool.

There is a bar with wine, persecco and other drinks.

Quiet low-key atmosphere for sure, not a glitzy 5 star hotel.

We loved it!

Room Tip: Tower suite is the best room and the best views!

The Bellosguardo is a magical place so close to Florence you can walk ito town if you like and yet you are in another world of lovely gardens with a wonderfull swimming pool. It is the most gorgeous villa in Florence. It is peacefull and charming, a great place to stay. My children have grown up going here.

Room Tip: The rooms are all lovely and individual .

My husband and I chose Torre di Bellosguardo for our wedding and we could not be happier with our choice. The hotel and grounds are absolutely breathtaking, and the view is beyond that! We kept pinching ourselves that we were fortunate enough to find such a spectacular venue.

The hotel's location is a wonderful respite from the craziness and heat of the City. Sitting around the pool is truly a tranquil and relaxing experience. The birds are chirping, the hotel's beautiful gardens are in bloom, and in front of you is a beautiful vista of Florence. There is also a small pool "bar" open during the day for drinks or snacks (although the prices on the food are quite steep).

The staff is wonderful - kind, courteous and extremely helpful. We also loved that the owner and his wife (Amerigo and Ana) were always there and were just as kind and accommodating as the rest of their staff.

Our family took 5 rooms for the wedding and each one is so special and unique. Some of them really make you feel like you stepped back into the 14th Century (in a good way). We loved that all the keys are skeleton keys - a unique trait that you'd never find in the US.

We highly recommend this hotel to travelers who are looking to be in Florence without really needing to be IN Florence. We would absolutely choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you need a/c make sure you specify that.

What a beautiful spot and what a great retreat from the crowds of Florence. Our kids loved the pool. Very authentic-a unique experience to be be able to stay in a true Tuscan villa. Breakfast is so so, so if not included, go into a cafe in Florence for it. There is no air conditioning but not hot enough that it was a problem. But it was a treat to be a guiest there. The service was good. We would definitely go again. Great with kids.

We came on a fact finding mission at the end of last year to check out Florence with a view to moving our family here. What a 'view' we got!! Bellosguardo is quite simply the best view in Florence - and that is nothing to be sneezed at, with other beautiful and breathtaking outlooks at San Miniato, Fiesole and from the top of the Duomo cupola itself. We stared in awestruck wonder as the evening shadows chased the sun gently across the city in the evening. It was seriously more like a Hollywood set than real vista. Enough of that and onto the hotel. I think it is the charm and quirks which make it so engaging - everyone can discover their own, but we loved the stunning original frescoes, intriguing antiques, the resident galah (parrot), the donkeys, chickens and other animals which can be visited through the stunning kitchen garden and olive grove, the charming owner who is happy to relate his family's intriguing association with the building, the thought that the legendary Dante may have sat in the same place with his best friend, the former owner, Guido Cavalcanti. It is unusual, unique and authentic. The rooms all borrow the magnificent scenes of Florence below. We loved idling in the conservatory/orangery with a civilised gin and tonic. I can see why some people have suggested more dining facilities, but we actually enjoyed popping down to a fabulous restaurant at the bottom of the hill where we dined heartily, in a truly Italian restaurant, with the associated sights, sounds and aromas all around us. The staff were perfectly obliging. Overall, a charming experience and unmatched by any of the many hotels we have now visited in Florence. Bellosguardo opened our eyes to the possibilities of this fabulous Rennaissance city and we are looking forward to recommending family members stay there this August.

Room Tip: Ask for any room with views over the city.

It was my first time to sleep in the mediaeval castle of such an enchanting beauty! You really feel like Giulette in a high bed in an enourmous room hand decorated with precious wood, antique large chairs in front of the chimney with family coat of arms. You wake up in the morning, come to the window and gosh! a splending paysage is opening to you: the beautiful Florence with a famous Dome and all magor palaces!! You see them ALL!! First you might think it is a picture on the wall! But no! It is REAL! You can see it with your own eyes!!!
The castle is a piece of art! I was quite fortunate to see all of them, because I came in law season and they are all adorable! Each one with its own character and style! One of them, on the very top, has a very high chimney and it is really unique! I can say I have never seen such a charming place in my life which is situated IN the city! And they have a beautiful garden! And a big swimming pool outside! And funny cats who always play in the garden:) Such a romantic place! Would be ideal for my wedding...

Room Tip: I was in n. 5, it has two rooms all in wood
