“A great and beautiful architectural monument -- who bleached the walls?!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

I love the Duomo, especially for attending Mass and Liturgy of the Hours, but am always a little bit sad that the walls and arches, which most certainly were once painted everywhere with narrative scenes, figures, and architectural forms (still visible in places like Orsanmichele) have been stripped and left grey. I'll have to do some more reading to find out how it happened. But this doesn't lessen the magnificence of Bruneleschi's achievement in the dome.

“Entry price Santa Reparata”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

While visiting the beautiful Cathedral, to which entry was free, I wandered downstairs to see the Crypt. Was expecting an entry price of six Euro for two but was told twenty. Paid the price which was an all inclusive ticket to crypt, museum, Battistero , bell tower and cupola. As an older person with a walking stick two of the five were not of any use, especially as they were recommended for fit people and the other two attractions are closed.

“Line to the top is ridiculous”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

The cathedral is beautiful and worth the stop. To get to the top of the duomo you have to buy a 10€ ticket - there are automated machines so do not waste your time in line there! Bathrooms in the ticket center are 1€ and very clean. Get in line EARLY. Send someone to buy tickets while someone holds your spot in line. We waited in line for over three hours and then had to leave because we had another appointment to make. The tickets are good for 6 days and I am assuming it is to make up for the lack efficiency in line. If you have a Firenze pass you have a priority entry - which slows the main entry. Bottom line you will waste nearly half a day in line for some beautiful views - just prepare yourself for a lot of standing.

“The Duomo is a sight to see!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

You can see The Duomo from so many places in the city, I used it as a compass. Take heed though - lines are ridiculously long and even if you buy tickets ahead of time, you have to allow hours to get in. I didn't go inside but some family tried and ended up eating the price of the tickets because after two hours of waiting they still had not gotten in. If you have a whole day free it's probably worth seeing but if not, spend your time walking "around" the Duomo and seeing more.

“Look up!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

The outside of the building is stunning in itself but the artwork on the dome interior is absolutely beautiful. Huge queues but not to be missed whilst you are in Florence.
