“Truly impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

The outside of the building is perhaps more impressive than most of the inside, but the artwork inside is spectacular. You could spend hours just looking at the art above your head. If you're physically able, it's worth the cost to climb to the top of the duomo... it's 463 gruelling steps but you are rewarded with panoramic views of Florence. Beautiful! Plus, you can see some of the interior structure, the original tools used to build the Duomo, and get a closer look at some of the artwork that adorns the dome.

“The Duomo is a Must Do”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

This is a free attraction and well worth seeing. From the outside the designs features, colours, and size are a delight to the eye. Once inside the grandeur still impresses although not as majestically as some European cathedrals - regardless, large, massive columns and humungous pipe organs, and impressive paintings, chapels, and a glorious painted dome make for an interesting place to observe and be awed by. You can pay to climb up the bell tower - we didn't - or just walk around and around. One must see this site as it is so historically relevant to Florence. (Also if you read Dan Brown's "Inferno" you will also appreciate the significance of this holy place.)

“Duomo Cathedral and Plaza Areas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

This church is magnificent and the plaza in front of it is just beautiful - with wonderful restaurants galore. Facing the church if you continue down the block to the right there is another plaza on the right with more restaurants, art, and musicians in the evening. We even caught a free concert there. They sell these strange little blue lights that you shoot up with a rubberband as souvenirs (great idea for kids and adults. Make sure to bargain down the price! Enjoy!

“Beautiful Cathedral”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

We must have hit a lull (maybe lunch hour) because the line to get in was minimal and it wasn't too crowded inside. It is a beautiful cathedral; yes, the outside is a little flashier and more impressive than the inside.
We passed on the expensive audio guide and used the self-guided tour from the Rick Steves book and that was perfect.
Note that it costs extra to climb the Tower or the Dome and both have their own long lines - so plan your time accordingly.

“Great view, long climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

Currently, there is much construction around the Duomo but you can still enjoy this amazing cathedral. We bought our tickets on line, printed them out at home and saved the hassle, The tickets are good for one admission to all the parts of the Duomo including the climb to the dome, the climb to the bell tower and the museo. Entrance to the cathedral is free but it was not open when we went but we where able to see it as we climbed The climb up to the dome is long because the path is narrow and in parts people are going up and down, but worth the view. Don't miss it. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to climb the bell tower.
