First, we can start with the location. Its very close to the train station which is handy. Its close to Santa Maria Novella which has Masaccios "The Holy Trinity" which is a pivotal Renaissance fresco, and its facade is done by Alberti. Not to be missed. But its also easy walking distance to the center of Florence to be awed by the Dumo. In general because the important parts of Florence from a historical and art perspective are so compact its all within walking distance.

The room we got did face the main street out front and it was loud til about 11 pm, and then it died down considerably. If you are noise sensitive make sure you ask for a room away from the road. The room was clean with high ceiling and large windows. It was larger than most rooms I find in Europe but of course there were two single beds pushed together for my wife and I. The internet was flakey but it did work. The bathroom was a bit cramped, and the toilet gurgled for a few minutes after flushing but it was a pleasant enough room. The beds were a little soft for my tastes but nothing terrible.

The lobby was comfortable but behind the lobby was plenty of seating and lounging space which we used since we were a group. This back area seemed mostly forgotten but it provided us with a great place to meet and spread out. The courtyard was very nice, but sadly I never got to the rooftop bar, but the pictures look great.

The staff was efficient and helpful, but we had nothing to concern them with other than a lost room key. And while I couldn't remember which room I was the gentleman staffing the front desk knew without looking it up.

One review said it didn't have an elevator, and I don't understand because there were two (one next to the other) there when we stayed. Granted they were tight but they were there.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: if you are sensitive to noise ask for a room that isn't on the street side.

We stayed with friends in the Family Room. Room was out dated but served its purpose for the one night stay. Breakfast was included and was one of the better things about the hotel. Staff was very friendly for letting us have a late check out (1700) to shower off after the marathon run. Less than 10 min walk from central train station.

I visited this hotel with a group of students. The location was good. At first I was assigned a room on the fifth floor (no elevator and very musty smelling). I told the desk clerk that the room was not acceptable and he said, it was one of the better ones with a balcony ( a crumbling rooftop that would have required me to practically climb out the window if I actually did want to use it). I asked to be shown another room and was given that one (which was far superior) without a fuss. The linens were clean and the room was superficially clean, but things like the light switches REALLY needed to be cleaned. I think a deep cleaning was in order for the whole place was in order. Location was good and the breakfast was ok, but again they have the instant coffee in the machine. They will make you a cafe or cappucino if you ask. However, when we had to leave early in the morning and were given a bagged breakfast, that was shameful. We were given a package of that dry toast product and a packaged croissant, which was inedible, and a juice drink. This was supposed to hold hungry teenagers until a lunch stop. Hotel was OK, but a little TLC would make it better.

Spent 2 nights in this comfortable hotel close to the train station and center of Florence. Hotel can do with a bit of a facelift but at the end all is functional. Breakfast is OK.. not WOW... Location is exceptional especially for anyone using the train station and/or the fair grounds... all these and the center of town are within a 10 minute walk... also lots of great restaurants around... The best thing about this hotel is the staff... always with a smile on their face and happy to help with everything... directions, trains, restaurants... etc. etc. We visit Florence every year for trade fairs and will definitely stay there again...

This hotel is very convenient is you are arriving in Florence by train. We walked from the station, dragging our suitcases. This also means it is within walking distance of the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and all the little narrow streets that as tourist you want to explore.
Our room was clean, but a little dated, the bathroom small but adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the best features of this hotel are the rooftop bar and the courtyard pool area.
We were there in September, and the days were sunny and hot. The courtyard was perfect for a cool drink in the afternoon, and the pool looked inviting though I didn't use it.
Happy hour at the rooftop bar was a definite highlight. The views are wonderful, especially looking across to the Duomo. And sitting up there listening to bells striking the hour was magical.

My husband and I stayed here in September 2013 during our trip to Italy. We booked Croce di Malta through Virgin Vacations and really enjoyed the hotel. 10 Minute walk from the train station. It's just around the corner from the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and approx. a 10 minute walk to the Duomo. We ended up with a 2 floor suite that had 2 beds and 2 bathrooms . More than enough room for 2 people. Furnishings were dated and the carpets were very worn. The bathrooms a little on the small side but newly renovated. We have learned that European bathrooms are just more compact. Similar to our other hotels in Italy, you had to keep the room key in the wall to keep the power running. Very small inconvenience though. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was typical for European hotel, cold cuts, fruits, pastries along with scrambled eggs. Rooftop bar alone made this hotel worth it. Beautiful views, awesome sunset, only open for a few hours though. There is a garden and patio area that looked very nice. Plenty of restaurants and shops close by. The Gelato shop on the corner is perfect for gelato, snacks and bottle water. Great hotel for the value. You are in Florence, enjoy the city not the hotel!

The Hotel Croce Di Malta is in the heart of "tourist" Florence. It is close to everything the tourist would be interested in. The staff is very helpful, nearby restaurants very good. The building is very old - built as a convent in the 1200's but the renovations are awesome. How can you bring a 13th century building into the 21st century. They've done it. It is a little quirky but delightful. Check out the roof bar.
