“Breakfast overcrowded; Wi-fi very weak”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Croce di Malta is very convenient to the Santa Maria Novella train station; that's why we chose it. We only stayed one night, as planned. The hotel ambiance is very pleasant; and the hotel is conveniently located close to the touristic center of Florence. There was no air conditioning; and opening the windows let in mosquitoes almost immediately. Mosquito repelling devices were available from the reception desk; but they didn't work so well. The breakfast area is totally inadequate for the number of guests. It's crowded; and nothing seemed to work sufficiently quick enough to handle the demand. The staff was quite kind; but over-worked. No complaints about any of the staff workers we encountered anywhere.

Room Tip: Try a room off the main street--in the inner court. Ours was on the street and noisy.

The Croce di Malta Hotel is conveniently located near the train station and behind the Santa Maria Novella. It is ideally situated and within walking distance of all the great monuments and museums. There is just so much to see in Florence and suggest you take the time to relax and visit the Florence Market and admire the gardens of the Palazzo Pitti.

The Croce di Malta Hotel staff is most courteous and professional and have nothing but compliments to shower on them. The room was large and clean and gave right away on Via della Scala. Internet service was probably one of the best and fastest connections that I experienced during my trip in Italy. However, since I was on vacation, I was not too keen to check my emails frequently.

The only regret I have is that I did not have a chance to experience the roof top terrace and admire the view, as the terrace is only open during the summer. Perhaps next time...

This hotel is very conveniently located. Just one block from Santa Maria Novella. It is near all major attractions in Florence. The breakfast is good, the staff is very polite and the restaurant offers very nice dishes at night. I would recommend it because it was never necessary to take a taxi or a bus to move around Florence!

Quaint rooms, great central location, friendly service. Incredible happy hours in the hotel bar, and the adjacent restaurant has some delicious dishes. I've stayed here more than 10 times over the past 20 years and am never disappointed.

Stayed for 4 nights on a business trip.

Room was clean and amenities of good quality but rather basic and certainly not luxurious.
Rather noisy in the night mainly because of some 'very happy' tourists walking the streets in the early hours of the morning.
Location to explore Florence historic centre is excellent and convenient to visit the region via bus or train.
The only disappointing aspect was the breakfast offered, which I found below average in terms of variety and quality of ingredients.
On the plus side room size was above average compared to other similar price hotels in Florence.
Staff always very friendly and happy to help and answer any queries.

First, we can start with the location. Its very close to the train station which is handy. Its close to Santa Maria Novella which has Masaccios "The Holy Trinity" which is a pivotal Renaissance fresco, and its facade is done by Alberti. Not to be missed. But its also easy walking distance to the center of Florence to be awed by the Dumo. In general because the important parts of Florence from a historical and art perspective are so compact its all within walking distance.

The room we got did face the main street out front and it was loud til about 11 pm, and then it died down considerably. If you are noise sensitive make sure you ask for a room away from the road. The room was clean with high ceiling and large windows. It was larger than most rooms I find in Europe but of course there were two single beds pushed together for my wife and I. The internet was flakey but it did work. The bathroom was a bit cramped, and the toilet gurgled for a few minutes after flushing but it was a pleasant enough room. The beds were a little soft for my tastes but nothing terrible.

The lobby was comfortable but behind the lobby was plenty of seating and lounging space which we used since we were a group. This back area seemed mostly forgotten but it provided us with a great place to meet and spread out. The courtyard was very nice, but sadly I never got to the rooftop bar, but the pictures look great.

The staff was efficient and helpful, but we had nothing to concern them with other than a lost room key. And while I couldn't remember which room I was the gentleman staffing the front desk knew without looking it up.

One review said it didn't have an elevator, and I don't understand because there were two (one next to the other) there when we stayed. Granted they were tight but they were there.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: if you are sensitive to noise ask for a room that isn't on the street side.

We stayed with friends in the Family Room. Room was out dated but served its purpose for the one night stay. Breakfast was included and was one of the better things about the hotel. Staff was very friendly for letting us have a late check out (1700) to shower off after the marathon run. Less than 10 min walk from central train station.
