“Beautiful Hotel with a GREAT Location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2011

I stayed here in July during my honeymoon and we could not have been happier. Our stay here started a bit rocky. When we arrived we were told that a massive water pipe busted and half of their rooms had no water. They put us in a different hotel that was "10 minutes away" and they told us that this hotel had shuttles to the downtown area every 15 min. It took us 25 minutes to get to the Hilton by taxi and the shuttles were every 2 hours!!! Needless to say that we were VERY UPSET!!! That same evening I went back to the Brunelleschi and spoke to a manager, he assured me that my room would be ready the next day.

When we arrived the following day we checked in early and our room was ready. The manager was great and upgraded us to a suite for the remainder of our stay. The room was absolutely beautiful and the best room that we stayed at during our 12 day Italy trip! The rooms are modern, clean and the staff are great!

You can't get a better location then this hotel. It's right next to (literally) the duomo and right in front of the Piazza della Repubblica. This hotel has all of the luxiourious needs you can possibly think of and the best location in Florence!

I would give this hotel 5 stars if it wasn't for the water pipe and having us moved to a different hotel for the first night but there was nothing we could do...that's life. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Just checked out on the 10th of July. This property has great potential, the modernization preserves the facade while providing for modern amenities in the rooms and common areas.

However, contrary to the hotels own postings in the elevator the place is VERY much under construction. The entire outside of at least one wing has scaffolding and active work. These guys are really eager workers, in fact they like to start at 5:40 AM on a Saturday morning hammering away outside our 4th floor room. My girlfriend openned up the blinds to see a guy staring at her through the window.

Like other reviewers, our room had broken A/C but Stefano (manager) managed to get it fixed - nice since the temp was +95 F the past few days.

Halls reek of noxious fumes from carpet glue and paint. The smell is overwhelming!

As for the hammering, missrepresentation about renovations being complete and horrible smells - I got "slimed" in plain english. They took my money up front, gave me an undesirable room and actually told me "they can't changed what's happened" when I brought this to their attention. But they did waive an 18 Euro (for 1 day) internet charge - consisdering every other hotel of that calibre provides is at no charge.

I cannot blame the front line staff, they are playing the cards they have but the managment of this hotel clearly does not value clients, nor the truth. Too many other choices in this wonderful city to waste time and money on this place - stay away!

This hotel is in a perfect location, you can walk everywhere and the restaurant is quite lovely. We called the concierge when we got to our ro bc there was construction going on outside the window. We were moved to a quiter room but the air condition didn't work. We called many times to ask for this to be fixed and it never was. We also asked the concierge to make us museum and dinner reservations, they said they would do that and call me back, but they never made them.

It is really difficult to determine a rating based on our experience at Hotel Brunelleschi. Our first day there would be 2 stars and then 4.5 stars for the next two nights. Here's why: We were visiting Florence as a stop on our honeymoon for 3 nights. The concierge staff was great in advance of our stay. I exchanged numerous e-mails with them for restaurant reservations and general questions. They always responded quickly which was appreciated. A few days before the trip, I spoke on the phone with one of the concierge associates a few times. Our stay was confirmed via e-mail and phone.

So why is it difficult to determine our rating? It was very hot the day we arrived in Florence. Based on the hotel's recommendation, we walked with our bags from the train station. It's true, that its only about a ten minute walk from the station. If you know where you're going. But the hotel is down an alley behind the Duomo and not the easiest to find and you'll be wheeling your luggage over cobblestones most of the way. Needless to say we were very hot by the time we made it to the front desk and wanted nothing more than a shower and clean clothes. Within 60 seconds of our arrival, the desk employee told us we couldn't stay there that night but that they'd booked us in a comparable hotel a 10 minute walk away. Our room at the Brunelleschi would be ready the next night. There was hardly any explanation. After complaining, they did offer to pay for a taxi, but I am sure we would have been walking if I hadn't said something. Based on my previously mentioned numerous conversations with the concierge, I was SHOCKED this was happening to us. The biggest frustration and inconvenience was having to change hotels 1 night into our 3 night stay. We planned our trip in Florence with 3 nights so that we could settle in a little and relax (instead of unpacking and packing and moving). This was our honeymoon afterall. The hotel they put us in the first night was in fact the same class of hotel but was old and run down. After seeing the newly renovated Hotel Brunelleschi, the hotels were not even comparable. This other hotel did include breakfast like we were supposed to receive at Hotel Brunelleschi and when we did check in to the Hotel Brunelleschi they upgraded us to a suite. The room was beautiful. The room and bathroom were very spacious unlike many other hotels we have seen in Europe with all sorts of modern amenities. Also because of the inconvenience, Hotel Brunelleschi sent us a bottle of champagne. Unfortunately we were not able to fully enjoy that since we were sick our entire first day at Brunelleschi from the previous hotel's breakfast. As a result of that, we can say the room was very nice and comfortable as we spent a lot of time in it that first day. The location is also very central and it's very easy to walk around Florence with the Brunelleschi as your home base. The staff at the front desk were very accommodating and helpful when it came to planning excursions and making reservations.

We found out later that the reason for the hotel switch was a plumbing issue. If, when we had arrived, the desk attendant had said, "I'm so sorry. We've had a plumbing problem and your room won't be usable tonight. We've made other accommodations for you and we'll get you a taxi there and back" we would have been annoyed but understood the situation. The big mistake was in trying to rush us out the door without that explanation. If it wasn't for that incident, we would have an overall very positive review of the hotel.

Also, I'm not sure if it was due to renovations or just the set up of the hotel, but note that the walk from the lobby to the rooms (especially upper level floors) is quite far and a little bit of an ordeal (walk around the corner to an elevator which only holds 4 people maximum, then walk down a hall to a small set of stairs and then you can take another tiny elevator or climb more stairs).

One last plus and minus. A big plus was the large and varied included breakfast. On the downside, this was the only hotel we stayed at in Europe that did not offer free wireless internet. Very disappointing for this class of hotel and in this day and age.

Stayed at the Brunelleschi Hotel for 2 nights on 1st July 2011 with my sister for a city break. This hotel is a little gem hidden away in a small Piazza but literally steps away from all the main attractions of Florence. A very boutique style hotel with big fluffy pillows and duvet which obviously was not needed in July. The shower was amazing. The only small thing I would say is there is limited storage for clothing (in room 104 anyway) but as we were only there fore 2 nights was not a problem. Fantastic breakfast with choice of hot food (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, saute potatoes, toast and cold buffet (hams, cheeses etc) as well as the usual continental choices and room service is also available. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again if a little luxury is required.

Room Tip: Absolutely fantastic location and very quiet

We were up-sold to the "Deluxe Executive Panorama" room because of its "360 degree panoramic view," its "romantic qualities," "luxurious accommodations," and the hotel attendant told us that the room typically "fetches 1500 euros a night". NONE of these qualities existed in this room! The view was very nice, but it was not 360 degrees. only 3 of the walls were considered to have a view, the fourth wall only had a tiny window that you would have to stick you head out to see anything. *The safe did not lock (where are we supposed to keep our valuables when we are out?), *the shower did not drain (so you would flood the bathroom with every shower and make a mess!), *the power outlets did not work (we could not charge our phone, computer or camera), the shower eventually stopped working consistently (it would suddenly shut off and then when it would come back on, it would either burst scalding hot or freezing cold water) the outlet in the bathroom would not work (so blowdrying and curling your hair wasn't possible). The room itself was pretty to look at with fresh tile, hardwood and glass panels, but NOTHING worked the way it should. If we wanted a view, we would visit the Duomo, this "hotel room" was not adequate! Even a $45 Best Western can provide a hot shower and an outlet that works! We avoided showers, couldn't ever get dressed up properly, complained DAILY to the staff and their did nothing! The elevators that we needed to take to our room RARELY worked! We had to take 5 flights of stairs to get to our room multiple times throughout the day! We finally said that we do not want to pay for this room and that we want to be moved. The staff promised us 1/2 off our rate and did not want us to move, and when it came time to check out, they would not honor that promise. Unfortunately, it had to get ugly with me and the lady behind the desk. The manager FINALLY came out to talk to me and then continued to blame us for the problems that existed in the room and even went as far to suggest that we were lying because none of those problems "existed before we checked in!" We were irate and had to absolutely refuse to pay for that "up-sale" of a room. It took a lot of doing, but they finally honored it. That is probably the only good thing we could say about the hotel is that (in the long run) we didn't pay for it, but we had to get really, really worked up and fight for it. We should not have had to! Their rooms not working right is their problem, not ours! Beware of staying here! They have a beautiful remodel in the works and everything looks gorgeous to the eye, but the overall quality of work done there is poor at best! Stay here at your own risk! Beware of up-sales and don't believe them when they tell you that you will have a 360 degree view!

Room Tip: Don't be fooled by the remodel, poor quality

Dear Sirs,
My name is Claudio Catani and I would have appreciated having Your name and surname just to be able to check your review .
I have personally checked the room 502 which is on sale from April 11th 2011, so brand new and today, July 4th 2011, everything is working perfectly.
I am not going through all the issues You are saying to have experienced as, to me, room 502 has no issue at all; I don’t understand why you have decided to upgrade after the inspection to the room and after you have seen where the room is (amazing view) and the way to get there (a private tower of the hotel located on the fifth floor). If you had thought there was no value for money you should not have upgraded and instead claimed the money back.
I cannot herewith attach the letters I received from Clients who stayed in that room having wonderful memories to take home with them.
The picture of room 502 is the Home Page of our web site as we are so proud to have such a marvelous accommodation in the heart of Florence.
Best regards,
Claudio Catani – General Manager

This was one of the better hotels we stayed at in Tuscany and Italy in general. The hotel is in an awesome location within easy walking distance to shops, Ponte Vecchio, restaurants, etc. We had a beautiful new room with lots of space, including a walk-through robe, double sinks in the bathroom, bath, and sitting area/lounge. Plus there was a coffee machine with all facilities in the room! We had beautiful breakfast in the restaurant and enjoyed sitting outside the bar at night for a nightcap with the lovely Santa Elisabetta square and foot traffic passing by. The staff were very accommodating and although their English wasn't their forte (Italian was not our either, hahaha), they tried hard to communicate with us. The only downside was the workmanship in the new room - it was a little shoddy and not finished to the high standard we would necessarily expect in a hotel.
