“Concierge”
Reviewed 30 April 2010

Having just returned from Italy, my husband and I were shocked at how rude many people were to Americans. We were very excited for our stay at the Hotel Continentale, and while the location and hotel are fantastic, the attitudes of the front desk/concierge were bad enough to put a damper our stay. These people seem to forget that they are working at a hotel in Italy, obviously Americans or guests from other countries are going to need their help. Attitudes and rolling of the eyes are really unnecessary- if it's so annoying for them to assist their guests, they should probably change their line of work. Now that we're home, we have mixed feelings- in one sense, this is a great hotel, but like mentioned above, the staff members definitely put a damper on the stay. One other thing to note- we had no issues with noise, but on Saturday night, staying in the corner room, we heard people out partying until probably 5 a.m. Just be warned.

My husband and I recently stayed for 5 nights at the Continentale Hotel in Florence. The hotel well exceeded my expectations. We were upgraded to a deluxe room with direct views over the Arno and Ponte Vechio, I just couldn't get over the view through my entire stay. The hotel is very clean and modern, full of chic decoration. The lobby is rather small and not a good reflection of the beautiful rooms. It is true, the beds are on the hard side, but I found it ok. We never had breafkast at the hotel, since it is in the middle of everything and we tried a new place everyday. Restaurant recommendations and staff were also great. I would not choose any other hotel when I return to Florence.

Ok, I admit it. I have stayed here before. and i LOVE this hotel. It is literally at one end of the Ponte Vecchio and includes an old Tower in which there are rooms. Very modern, minimal rooms. Mostly white. Cool colored uplighting. Great bathrooms - all pickled wood and great bath amenities. This hotel is owned by the Ferragamo family as part of Lungarno Hotel group. The rooftop deck bar is awesome at the end of the day at dusk. Look to one side an its the Duomo. To another is the Uffizi. Another is the Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace across the river. 360 Degree views are inspiring and relaxing with a drink on the roof. Hotel staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Referred me to some great local restaurants too. They also help book you a shuttle to The Mall (the designer boutique outlet mall about 45 minutes south of FLorence - that costs 25 Euro). Value was great. Flat panel TV. Large safe which can fit laptops. Extra pillows. Beds are very firm - you need to like that to sleep well. All in all, I will definitely be back on my next trip to Florence!

This hotel has an excellent location and stylish decor. It was very pleasant for a 3 night stay and I would recommend it.

I disagree with the reviews that have given this hotel 5*s:
- it does not have 5 star facilities and there are much better hotels in the world, so it is a nonsense as a starter to give this category of hotel the top tripadvisor rating.
- the service was only ok. The bars were often unmanned (meaning you had to wait or walk around for 10 mins to order drinks), the reception failed to make a reservation at its sister hotel restaurant (meaning we were turned away) and they did not fix or replace the hifi in our room which didnt work properly (when they promised they would) meaning I couldnt use my Ipod.
- breakfast is a basic buffet and costs 50 euro per person. The quality of the breakfast does not justify this price.
- the soundsystem was rather budget and the speakers tinny. A world class hotel would have something like a B&O or Bose system.
- whilst overall the room was very clean, there were a couple of dirty tiles.

If you want a good performing, stylish hotel in a central Florence location, then this will meet your requirements. But this is not a world class hotel.

We were very pleased with this modern hotel right at the Ponte Vecchio. The location was amazing - centrally located and easy walking distance to all of the attractions. The staff were very pleasant and accomodating. Great roof deck and also the relaxtion room on the 2nd floor looking out upon the Ponte Vecchio was great!

We had a fantastic stay here, the place is clean, friendly, modern, minimalistic and right in the centre of florence. Just a shame the rooftop bar isn't open in the winter months.

We stayed at the Continentale for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay - we were given room 405 which had a balcony with a view of the Arno River. We had a split level room with the bathroom located up a small staircase, which made the room feel pretty huge. The hotel is a stones throw from Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. There was a special offer for breakfast whilst we were there, 12 euros each per day, normally 25 euros and this was well worth it.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. It isn't cheap but the location is second to none. One top travel tip is make sure you cross the bridge and spend some time on the south side of the river, the restaurants are much more authentic and reasonably priced.
