We had stayed at the Monna Lisa for a few nights after a cruise...we took the train, and upon disembarking, realized we had no idea how to navigate Florence, so took a cab to our hotel. Absolutely breathtaking, this is a former 15th century palazzo...everywhere we turned, we were amazed by the beauty. Our room was great, and the breakfast is stupendous!! As we strolled the hotel, a few things that stood out were the "Mona Lisa Room", where dozens of Mona Lisa paintings are displayed, most of them hysterically irreverent. The gardens are beautiful and fragrant. The bar is a charming area to sit, and the actual bar is an antique (kneeling area? confessional?) from a church. A year and a half later, we decided to travel again, and chose the Monna Lisa. Everything was as we remembered it, and if possible, the room was even nicer!! This hotel is also nicely situated to the Duomo, and walkable to every site in Florence. The only drawback is the mosquito problem, but that is citywide at the time of year we were there...
