“Fabulous Oasis in Heart of Florence”
Reviewed 16 October 2009

My husband and I just stayed at the Monna Lisa with 3 other couples after spending a week biking through the hills of Umbria...it was a lovely oasis in the heart of Florence. I felt as though I was staying at someone's villa...the public areas are tasteful and the rooms are charming, The garden is a perfect spot to enjoy before or after dinner drinks, read a book or enjoy the peace and quiet. The breakfast was very good, with nice variety in yet again another lovely room. The ONLY downside is that some of the front desk staff are down right rude. We nicknamed one Attila the Hun as we were quite put off by her in regard to any need we might have. Otherwise, no complaints....lovely restaurant down the street called La Giostra...a must...also a great ceramic store on the way to the Duomo called Sbigoli Terrecotte. Many things made there and they ship. Enjoy Florence...it is a wonderful walking city with many things to see and do.

We spent the first 3 nights of our honeymoon at this hotel, and were quite pleased. We got room #!, which is the 'secret' room whose door is disguised as a part of the wall. This was a neat touch that, I hate to admit, provided us much juvenile amusement. The room itself was a little worn but clean and servicable, with a loft holding the comfortable bed and a nice sitting area below. The bathroom was adequate in size, with a jetted tub. The courtyard and breakfast rooms were beautiful, although the breakfast was somewhat limited in that no hot items were provided...but the coffee was great and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. The location is good, on a quiet street just a few doors down from a bustling square. If you prefer something sleek, new, modern, in the very middle of the action...a more homoginized generic hotel experience...this place isn't for you. If you are looking for a place that is chamrming, pictaresque, unique and well located, this is perfect.

An amazing place, from the front foyer, through the many living rooms, bar, dining room, courtyard and solarium-a beautiful environment full of original art. Be sure to read the brochure, this is a former palace with an interesting history. Staff is very helpful, and speaks English. Our quad room was actually 2 connected bedrooms with 2 full baths including 1 jacuzzi. Everything was clean, fresh and comfortable. Well worth the price. Breakfast was good and we were able to store our luggage while we explored Florence before our night train to Paris. Internet a bit pricey. Would return again!

This is a stunning hotel, with a beautiful garden and packed full of ancient furniture and antiques. The room was lovely, actually two adjoining which was great for our teenagers. Great location, quiet, but only five minutes walk to the Duomo.
The food at breakfast was good. The only cavil is that the reception staff were not especially friendly and the breakfast staff were over stretched and grumpy.

It is not modern, nor is it typical...it just reflects all that Florence is and was. If you don't like
that, this is not for you. Go to an American or Swedish hotel.

I booked this hotel for its central location as I travel alone. After booking, I read the reviews - and hesitated about cancelling. I am SO pleased I did not cancel. The hotel is central, the staff were extremely kind and friendly and the service was superb. (I had a problem with the electric one evening and I went to reception to report the problem and within five minutes there was someone there to fix it - simply a blown fuse.)

The staff are knowledgable regarding the area and sights not to be missed, including great places to eat.

I know we all have different opinions but please do not disregard this hotel - it was fantastic value, good service and such an interesting building - the contents of which are simply delightful.

I would recommend it to anyone and hope one day to return.

We booked 2 rooms for 5 days on our way through Italy and France. As one post stated, it is not much from the front but nicer inside. Our biggest disappointment was the staff, they were extremely indifferent. I would have qualified them as rude the first day however as the days went on we just realized they probably all need a change in employment. The hotel was ok but never should have been rated as a 4 star - it is a definite 3 star. We are very well traveled with in the US and international. We are not demanding but do expect a certain amount of service. The rooms were alright however the linen was that of a 2 or 3 star if that. They did however put our 2 rooms together when we arrived which was nice. They charge for Wi-FI and it is SLOW and only available in the lounge. The TV - Sky TV is almost non-existent and the staff is very RUDE when asked to help solve issues. Breakfast service was mediocre at best.
