Our family stayed in a Quadruple Room (2 double beds) on the 1st floor for 3 nights at Hotel Bodoni. It was very good for value, especially since it includes an excellent breakfast (more on this below).
Reception is on the 4th floor and so is the restaurant (which has indoor and outdoor/terrace seating and only opens for breakfast between 7:30am and 10am). All floors are served by a small lift (4-6 passengers). It's in a more 'residential' part of Florence so less tourists not to mention the benefit of quietness, and there's a Conad chain supermarket on the left side of the hotel across the road. It's a 15-20 minute leisurely walk (past Duomo - which is a 5-7 minute walk away) to Florence Santa Maria Novella Station with shade along the way - it's ok to do with luggage if you have a map (we never had to use the C2 bus or taxi).
The breakfast here is certainly the highlight of this hotel. Real fresh orange juice every day made using an automated orange squeezer machine (so you need about 2-3 oranges to fill one glass and Sandro - the kind old man who seems to head the restaurant, constantly brings new oranges), plenty of yoghurt (strawberry, blueberry, mixed berries, original, malt, coffee flavoured), 2 types of ham, salami, cheese, 3 kinds of cereal, boiled eggs, breads, croissants, Twinnings tea, milk and a choice of different types of coffee or hot chocolate (Fabio, another staff member, asks for your preference when you sit down). It's a breakfast buffet, so based on the outside prices (a shocking 3 euros for a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice in nearby restaurants), the room rate is well worth it. Sandro is very customer-oriented, literally running to open the door for you if you go to the terrace and always smiling. He welcomed us, especially the children, every morning with a "Buon giorno" and spoke to us with a few words in Italian lightheartedly (although he knows English).
My only comment about the rooms is that they're a little spartan. But for a 2-star property, you can't really expect much. The toilet in our room faintly reeked of sewage every time we entered the room but we got used to the smell after a few minutes or so in the room. There is a portable air-conditioner (albeit an old one) with different modes. Our room wasn't very noisy as others have said, but this might have been because our room faced a small street (not the main street in front) with a second window facing the rooftop of another building.
