We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and were happy with our choice. We stayed on the first floor in a large room that faced the street. I am not sure of the room number. Private bath, AC, good breakfast and helpful staff. We, like other reviewers, liked the location. We are over 50 and did not mind the walk from the train station to the hotel, even in the 90 degree heat and carrying our suitcases. We also had no problem walking to all the major sites. (Even took a day trip to Siene on the bus.) Staff was friendly, gave good recommendations for restaurants, and helped us get reservations to major museums.

Hotel Bodoni is a typical Italian city hotel for budget-travelers, with above-average location and service but poor dorm-like rooms. Most staffs are nice, breakfast is okay, but these are overshadowed by inherent structural problems the building suffers.

This hotel is close to Piazza Salvemini near the eastern edge of historical Firenze (Florence), a busy intersection with good bus connections. It is about 20 minutes of walk from the main Firenze train station (Stazione Santa Maria Novella), and bus line C2 starting next to Basilica di Santa Maria Novella (opposite the train station) stops three blocks south to the hotel. The Basilica also houses a very helpful tourist information center, where you can get your bearings and good city maps. From the hotel, the famous Duomo is 10 minutes away, Galleria degli Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio take 10-12 minutes, Galleria dell’Accademia 15 and Palazzo Pitti 20 minutes. Thus its location is sufficient for exploring the entire historical Firenze on foot. Nevertheless, we recommend that you invest on Firenze Cards that allow unlimited rides on public transportations for three consecutive days (plus entry to most sights of interest). There are convenient bus lines to the North (Galleria dell’Accademia) and to the South (Palazzo Pitti).

Hotel Bodoni is a typical Italian city hotel in the sense that it occupies various parts of an old residential building. Specifically, it occupies the fourth and the first floor, with the reception, lobby, and breakfast hall all on the fourth floor. Guests are required to turn in the room key whenever they go out, so those on the first floor face a bit of a constant hassle. This is aggravated by the presence of one tiny elevator that is sometimes not easy to get hold of. Our small room looked more like a dreary dorm than a hotel, was dusty, and lacked sunlight. The bathroom has no separate shower stall and there is a drain on the bathroom floor for taking a shower. Interestingly, the bathroom is higher than the bedroom, so water inevitably leaks into the room. No wonder the wooden bathroom door is rotten, the toilet cover is peeling off, and there are molds everywhere. We could understand why our friendly maid never dusted the room – apparently it takes all her energy to mop up bathrooms every day. In addition, water temperature is volatile, and tends to get colder as evening wears on. Soundproofing is virtually nonexistent, but the sound from adjacent rooms is the least of your worries, because it is swamped by all that noise coming from streets outside well into the night. It is difficult for us to talk about sleep quality, when we could hardly sleep for four nights in a row.

Hotel staffs are in general nice. One elderly gentleman at the front desk was a bit surly but another was cheerful and helpful. There is one young man in particular who is clearly giving his best, and we are reluctant to give the lowest rating to Bodoni because of this man. We genuinely wish him a successful and prosperous life.

To summarize, Hotel Bodoni is an economy hotel in a fair location but suffering from a very inadequate building. It is in need of a major renovation. Until then, we are hesitant to recommend this place to our friends.

Dear Guest thank you for your review we are extremely surprised by these words. What you have described has numerous inconsistencies with reality and with all the positive reviews so far written by our guests.
I'm reading your words and I think about how it would be better If you went to reception and presented your problem. Our staff is always available and ready to please everyone.

Stayed here for a few nights in may 2013, knew from t.a what to expect and happy with our stay, staff are all friendly, the rooms are ok in size, strange toilet/shower room but was ok, balcony room as requested & the blinds/shutters great at keeping out light. Walls are quite thin & you can hear next door but they were sensible and weren't too noisy-on a Friday night and probably Saturday there is a nearby nightclub which was obviously kicking out and the locals were very noisy, not the hotels fault of course but worth bearing in mind to take earplugs.
The breakfast was typical European fare with cereal, breads fruit juice and meats, the breakfast staff were kept busy but very friendly too.
The hotel is a short 20 min walk from the train station and I would recommend this place as a good base.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel Bodini Firenze for 4 nights. The staff were friendly and very helpful assisting us with information and use of their computer when my iPad for some reason would not access Internet. We stayed in 2 rooms having originally booked 2 nights then extending another 2. Rooms clean and comfortable with own bathroom. Breakfast included offering a buffet of delicious selection. The hotel decor was lovely and in tune with the romance of Florence. There are 2 outdoor terraces and the rooftop is the ideal location to enjoy the sunset and a glass of wine. The hotel is within walking distance to sites and a variety of restaurants. Supermarket across the road as well as ATM. 20 minute walk to railway station.

Room Tip: Some rooms are much larger then others which cost more however if only using at night may want to th...

The rooms were very clean and spacious.
Breakfast was very nice.
It is about 5-7 mins from the railway station by taxi.
Hotel Staff were very nice. It was worth the money.
During our time of visit there were some celebrations. So it was a bot noisy but overall the hotel is the best choice in Florence for tourists who want to discover the artistic city

We only stayed here one night. The rooms were spacious and clean. We were on the 5th floor with a view over to the church and hills beyond. The hotel is in a convenient location, within easy walking distance of the Duomo and the station. (about 20 mins) The staff were friendly and helpful. The choice at breakfast was very good.
I would recommend this hotel as good value in Florence, for a clean, basic hotel.
