“Excellent Location, not so great ammenities (specially RR)”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

My wife and I stayed at hotel Gioia in October 2013 for 3 nights. The location is excellent! The hotel has an affordable price and is in a great location. Only minutes away from el Duomo and not very far from the train station (Santa Maria Novella). It was in a great central locatoion. We walked to just about everything we wanted to sight see. Piazza della signoria and many museums are within walking distance. The breakfast has small variety, but it is good nevertheless. The only downside we really had from being at the hotel was the bathroom, and specifically the shower. The shower was so small and only had a wrapa around curtain that would stick to your body as you were trying to shower. It made us uncomfortable as we do not know what kind of germs others that have previously stayed at the hotel have, specially after the curtain being wrapped around them. Had the hotel not been in the awesome location that it is in, then the rating would probably be poor in our point of view. The location really does make it that much better. However, if you are not a germ freak and do not mind that kind of thing then this could be a great hotel for you.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Gioia in November for 2 nights during our trip to Italy. We took the train from Rome and walked from the Santa Maria Novella station to the hotel, which was only about a 10 minute walk. When we got there our room was ready. The hotel staff is really friendly and they spoke English well. We had a nice, large room with a clean bathroom and fluffy towels. There was a flat screen tv-mostly Italian channels. The room overlooked the street outside and had high ceilings. They provided extra blankets in the armoire but it was pretty cozy so we were okay. A continental breakfast was served every day at 7:00 am-it was pretty basic-cereal, fruit, croissants, yogurts. The hotel is about a block from the Accademia and about 2-3 blocks from the Duomo and from there you can walk to the Piazza della Signoria. On the hotel's block there are a lot of little shops and restaurants so it's a good place to stay because it's located in a nice, tourist friendly area. If we ever go back to Florence we'll definitely come back to this hotel.

This is a nice little basic hotel to rest your head after a day exploring the delights of Florence. But please don't be going expecting frills, as you will not find many. I was travelling with my Grandmother who insisted that she just wanted somewhere cheap and basic to rest her head, however on arriving it soon became apparent that this wasn't the case. But if you really are, like me, just looking for a comfortable bed to sleep in at night, perfect.

The staff were incredibly friendly, I don't think I have ever seen such a welcoming smile as I did on the lovely gentlemen at the front desk, and were always happy to offer us advice on anything we wanted to ask. Breakfast was nice on the whole, and internet connectivity was good for those who need to keep linked up to work or home.

The best bit for me was the location, turn right out of the front door, walk for a couple of hundred metres and boom! The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is right in front of you. The one downside I found to the location was it seems to be close to the hospital or ambulance station, as we constantly had the noise of ambulances zooming up and down nearly every half an hour. We had a room that overlooked the road, so the sound may not have been such a problem in other rooms of the hotel.

All in all, a nice little place to stay.

I have stayed in this wonderful 3* hotel on 5 occasions now. Walk out the front door, to your (R) the Duomo 1 1/2 blocks away. To your (L) 1 block across and 1/2 a block up, the Accademia. Close to everything, Medici Chapel, San Lorenzo, the Mercato, restaurants and many well known sites. Wonderful hosts, great breakfast, helpful & professional. I'll be back again next year.

Room Tip: Email and say exactly what you want. Noise is not an issue.

Stayed at this hotel of two nights after returning from a Tuscan tour. The hotel is located in Via Cavour, one of the main streets and only 5 minutes walk to the Duomo in Piazza Duomo.. The hotel itself is located one level up from the street entrance, but is serviced both by an elevator and stairs. The Manager was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for restaurants and places to go. While an older style hotel, it is well maintained and the rooms were clean and functional. Breakfast was adequate without offering an extensive range of options. All in all, a great location for sightseeing and shopping in Florence.

I booked this hotel last minute when heading to Florence. The room is basic yet clean. Its in a wonderful location that is within walking distance of everything. If you are looking for a modest, clean place to rest your head that is close to everything, this is the spot. Staff were attentive and courteous as well.

Good location, walking distance to train station, very close to main sites. Friendly staff, good breakfast (recommend the croissants!), comfortable room, quiet. Bathroom was fairly pokey. Safe in room.
