“Shady retreat in a green leafy neighborhood”

Staying in this beautiful building away from the fray restored us for another day of sightseeing. The rooms and garden are not spacious enough to make this a hotel where you want to linger for hours. It is a very clean hotel with interesting furniture and nice firm beds.Within 15 minute scenic walk to Piazzale Michelangelo and the elegant restaurant la Loggia. Within ten minute walk of the cozy trattoria Da Beppino. Within 20-25 minute walk of the Uffizi.

My husband and I had booked a double room for our last night in Italy - upon arrival we were told the room had gone even though I had an e-mail printout confirming the reservation under credit card guarantee. We were offered a single room instead which was the size of a shoe-box, one "towel" which resembled a cotton tea-towel. As it was a busy time of the year we had no choice but accept the box room. Hotel resembled Fawlty Towers - wish we'd read your reviews before committing to the worst night in a hotel during 30 years' travelling!

The location is great as said before. The hotel looks appealing however once inside the rooms fall short of adequate. Bathroom stunk of smoke seeping through the cracks. Bath towels were actually bed sheets. Mosquitoes were rife and we were bitten all over (or were they fleas?). We did find staff amiable and they tried hard at breakfast. I guess you could say that it was adequate but overpriced for what it was.

I was quite pleased with this hotel. The location was great, and our room was clean and spacious, with a large terrace overlooking the street.
Unlike one of the other reviewers, I found the staff quite helpful. We needed a pharmacy open on a Sunday, and they found us one, and they recommended a great restaurant down the street. The price was reasonable, and I'd return in a heartbeat.

The Villa Liberty is an excellent location in Florence, within walking distance of the River, and an easy stroll into town. However, the staff did not seem very tuned in to their city, places to eat, or what to do. When I asked the front desk clerk, "where do you eat in this city," she replied, "home." Wrong answer for a tired, hungry tourist just arriving and in need of a good meal!

The room had old lineoleum, but the wooden ceiling and beams gave it a warm feeling of the days of old. The bathroom was completely tiled, which was also a nice old fashioned touch.

There was a heat wave when we were there in late May, and the air conditioner did not work. When we called downstairs, they said the government has to issue the okay to turn it on! Well, not much can be done in that situation.

On waking up and going in to their breakfast room, my husband and I were shocked that an ederly gentlemen that doubled as the front desk clerk, had blarring disco music piped into the room! Not exactly what you'd expect from a boutique hotel...so amid the boom boom of disco beat, we tried to concentrate on drinking our coffee and having a lite bite to eat.

If you are on a budget, the best thing I could say about this hotel is its location, and the nearby little neighborhood restaurants, that were terrific.
If you are looking for an attentive staff, this is not the place for you. As a seasoned and independent traveler - it's a good jumping off point for all the activities in town.

I can remember the dead mosquitos which had been squashed on the wall added to the general ambiance of the place. The hotel itself was nice.
The Management was not.

The air conditioning was hardly ever switched on. The blurb on the hotel web site indicated that they would be only too pleased to assist in any way they could - we did not find this. We asked about booking a sight seeing trip and were told to get a brochure and phone up about it. Management was generally unpleasant

We referred to the hotel as "The Stalag."

My wife and I just returned from two weeks of touring Italy, this our second visit. We like to stay at nice, clean and fresh hotels, 3 or 4 star. The Villa Liberty was physically the above, but unfortunately the owners who run the hotel spoiled our experience. They advertised as having air conditioning, however were reluctant to turn it on in hot, humid Florence. We had to phone the front desk in order for the central air conditioning to be put on. They disagreed with us that it was necessary to turn it on at all, but when we persisted, they agreed. However, in the middle of the night the air conditioning would be turned off. There was also a feeling of mistrust from the front desk as they refused to return our passports to us until we checked out. This is not a youth hostel, but a 3-star hotel costing 170 euros per night. As well, they had our credit card as a guarantee of payment. I would only return if they changed management.
