“Really handy”
Reviewed 18 November 2011

Stayed 3 nights in October, and thought the room was quite dark, ie not enough lights in the room, very hard to read a book in bed. The bathroom was clean and serviced every day as were the sheets on the bed. The hotel was really very handy to the rail station and also to the Duomo and even the markets which were right in the next street. Everything you really want to see was within walking distance. We took a bus to the hilltop where David's replica overlooks the city and walked back seeing the Ponte Vecchio, Galleria Uffizi, Palazzo della Signoria, Baptistry, Cathedral, Palazzo Pitti, Palazzo del Bargello, and the Santa Croce.
The staff at the hotel we found were friendly and helpful, recommending good restaurants nearby, and also tours that could be taken while in Florence. The breakfast offered was adequate, that is, I didn't need anything else to eat. Although chocolate croissants do nothing for me at breakfast. One thing I found really strange was that there were a lot of different levels on the same floor. Instead of walking your suitcase on a level floor, you have to carry your cases up and down 3 or 4 steps on the same landing. Be wary if you're travelling by car, because if you want to park the car it's going to cost you 25 euros per night. Overall I couldn't say the Atlantic Palace was 1 of my top 5 hotels but I couldn't fault the cleanliness and the efficiency of the staff. Would have given a better score had there been more lights in the room, and if the passageway had been level.

The hotel is situated at a 5 min walking distance from the railway station although its easy to miss the hotel and you cud walk right past it... neat and clean place with friendly staff although not a very lavish stay. breakfast spread was limited. i wud call it more of a budget stay

Spent 2 nights in room 375 in October 2011 and had no problems. The room is a bit worn but is clean and the bathroom / shower was modern and very clean - at the end of the day we were there to see Florence on the cheap and if you want Marriot standards then stay round the corner at the Marriot! Was a bit of traffic noise but then the room was on the road frontage in the centre of a busy city. We found the staff really friendly and helpful on the front desk - recommending and booking restaurants for us and giving us advice and directions. Breakfast was pretty good for an inexpensive hotel. If we go back to Florence we'd stay there again - big plus point is that it is walking distance from the station with your case and right on the edge of the heart of the city - 10 minutes walk to the main sights!!

The areas inside looks good. the room is decorated in old style. And it is really very old.
The hair dryer, AC, bathroom heater was not working.
The power contents are broken and mainly there are no extra contents/ plugs to charge phone etc. too less light in room, and can not open window because other buildings are too close.
Bathroom shower area is very small.
Breakfast was very less choice. 2 types of bread, jam butter, salami, egg, yogurt, serials. for one day it is ok but for more than that it is boring.

We are pride ourselves on our property upkeep and attention to detail, but clearly we were not up to standards on your stay and for that I am truly sorry. I have shared your comments with my management team for review and will take your cue from your complaints to improve service. We hope to see you again so soon, and to regain a positive comment, as most of the customers has given us.

Hotel Atlantic Palace is in a great location to walk to and from the train station and a lot of the attractions of Florence. The hotel staff was very attentive. There was trouble with the lights in our room and they moved us quickly to another room. The air-conditioning was not working well and they brought us a fan right away. The internet was not functioning properly and they had it resolved within hours. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was plentiful and hot.

We stayed at the Atlantic Palace in early September for three nights. We were given a room on the top floor - 375. The mattress had a spring sticking out of it, and the room was shabby and worn (though clean). The room had no chair for the desk, and we had to ask for one. The only positive was that the bathroom had been recently renovated, and was quite serviceable (we were told this room was a free upgrade for us when we checked in). For us, the worst part was at night. For some reason at night, the AC venting for the room was picking up sewer gas from a rooftop vent (we could see from inside the room that the AC vent outside our room going onto the hotel rooftop had an access door open or an opening in it - we could see daylight from the vent during the day.) - the room reeked of sewer gas. I talked to the night front desk receptionist about this - he simply did not believe me and told me it was impossible for sewer gas to be sucked into the room - he was not helpful at all - I tried to explain how dangerous sewer gas can be and he shrugged it off). The hotel's solution was to turn off the AC for the room, leaving us baking in the heat of Florence - they said they didn't have a room to move us to. We asked for, and got a fan to help make the room a little more comfortable. If we hadn't had prepaid voucher for the room we would have moved hotels. We chalk it up to one more travel experience we'll tell our friends about.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask to see a room before you accept the keys.

Dear Sir

Thank you for your comment even if negative, but we want to clarify something:

1) First of all the staff of the hotel was not indifferent to your problem, that’s why the night desk receptionist try to resolve your problem and in the morning immediately the concierge desk, control the room for the safe of you and the safe of the entire building.
2) We hadn’t the possibility to give you another room, because the hotel was fully booked and we couldn’t move to another hotel cause as you said, the problem came to you, in the middle of the night; otherwise as is policy of our hotel, in case of problems to some room we move immediately clients to another room or if we are full, we try to find another hotel.
3) The only solution at that time in the night, for the security of you and of the entire building, was to turn of the air-conditioning and to give you a fan in order to resolve partially your problems.
4) The day after an accurate check-up of the room, made buy technicians and hotel staffs didn’t find any problem and we gave your room to other clients, which they didn’t remarked your problems.
5) At the check-out you didn’t mention this problem to the front-desk and you didn’t tell us that you will gave us a negative comment on trip advisor, that why we are very surprised or your negative note

Anyway we hope to see you soon and we hope the next time to receive a positive note

The locaion was great and the hotel was nicely decorated which should have made for a great stay but unfortunately this was not the case for several reasons:

1. The air conditioning in the rooms was extremely weak and the hotel staff were fully aware of this but nothing has been done about it. They say it is not like air conditioning systems in America. When it's 30+ degrees outside, a cool room is necessary.

2. The hotel was very noisy. The walls were thin and the sound of the toilet flushing was extremely loud so if your neighbours go to the toilet in the middle of the night, the noise will wake you up.

3. Housekeeping standards were not up to scratch. On several occasions we were provided with dirty glasses and wern't provided with toilet paper. The towels didn't smell clean either.

4. The showers in some rooms were extremely small and it's impossible to move your arms about in order to wash your hair.

5. The breakfast selection was pretty limited.

6. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room which you would expect when you are paying this much for the room

Overall this hotel displayed poor guest service and represented poor value for money. If you must stay at this hotel, I strongly recommend taking ear plugs with you.

Room Tip: Request a room at the back of the hotel

Dear Sir

Thank you for your comment even if negative, but we want to clarify something:

1) In Italy there is a law a Presidential Decree n.412 of August 26, 1993, that regulates the temperature of the air conditioning and all hotels must to follow it in order to not have hefty fines.
2) Our rooms are cleaned every day and after the cleaning there is a double-check of the rooms, this allows us to have high standards of cleanliness, very appreciated by other customers.
3) The rooms and bathrooms have the size requirements of the law n 378 of May 16, 1996, which are also the standard European regulations.
4) We don’t have tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but this is clearly written on our web site, but we have a bar open on our lobby open 24 hours
5) The breakfast is not poor but adequate to a four star hotel

Finally sir, can just answer please to this question if it was so bad to us, why you spend the night with us? When a place is so bad and when there are people so rude, why you do not immediately change the hotel? You prefered to stay with us, that make us to assume that we are obviously no so bad as you said.
