Owner description: A beautiful building best known for its elaborately sculpted doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti.

Currently being renovated so cannot see the outside of this historic building but you can still gain access inside to view the wonderful paintings, sculptures and decorations as part of the €10 ticket that also provides access to the nearby cathedral, Duomo (Dome) and tower.

If you're not there on that day though, it is still worth the ticket price, which also includes seeing most of the buildings part of the Duomo complex. The interior ceiling mosaics are incredible with the sparkling gold and the detail. Sit for awhile and take it all in!

I have been to Florence on many occasions and while my appreciation for the history, design and art of the Baptistry is engrained deeply within, it brings a special delight when someone unfamiliar with the place walks in and sees the ceiling for the first time. All I can say is don't miss it!

Wonderful but remember the original doors by Ghiberti are in the Opera del Duomo museum which is closed for renovation. The history of the doors during the flood in the sixties is interesting

The ceiling is breath taking. Similar to the ceiling mosaics in San Marco in Venice. We thought the inside of the baptistry more beautiful than the Duomo. Since you buy a ticket that covers the whole complex you should definitely take the time to go inside. If however you do not buy a ticket for the complex be sure to take the time to see the doors.
