Owner description: While it may not look like much from the outside, the elaborate interior of Brunelleschi's landmark church proves that it is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture.

Besides the great Dome, Brunelleschi also designed ths church. The vaulting and columns are exquisite, as are the chapel paintings. Michelangelo's crucifix is here too. Unfortunately, no photos allowed anywhere inside.

Again my wife went rather than myself but she stated worth a visit to see the cross attributed to a young Michaelangelo. From the outside it looks quite grim even with the nearby bustling restaurants but inside was interesting

The outside looks plain and it is the hang out of locals and students alike, but don't let that stop you-go in! I even attended a mass and got to meet the priest (who was from the Congo and spoke excellent english and french). Go see the Michelangelo crucifix in the side room - made from wood when he was just 17 as a gift to the church for allowing him to study the dead bodies before they were buried. Salvatore, is the guard at the desk, he looks stern but he's nice.

The Church is quite old, It was designed by Brunelleschi in a Renaissance style. The place is less crowded due to the fact it being away from the touristy area. The interesting and famous thing in the church would be wooden crucifix created by Michelangelo.

There is no tourism during services, so plan accordingly.

The Basilica of Santo Spirito was designed by Brunelleschi in 1427. The building is one of the pre-eminent examples of Renaissance architecture. There is a Michelangelo treasure in the church. The wooden crucifix was discovered in 1962 and has been attributed to Michelangelo, who sculpted it when he was 18 years old. It is found in the Barbadori Chapel. It shocked the world when discovered because it showed a nude Christ.

The church is free to enter. However we left a small donation for the church maintenance.
