Gorgeous mansion and collection of art as well as the main feature of armory incredible and exciting for children and teens to see the fully armored cavalry, swords etc. beautiful peacefully garden and cafe. Guided tour on the hour so arrive before the hour to insure you have a spot as 25 people max. We took bus 4 from Santa Maria Novella and walked a short distance. Bus directions on their website. Buy two tickets so that you have your return bus ticket in advance. Plan to return!

This museum is very interesting... Also for children - Who are fascinated by all the armour etc! They can even try on a helmet and a few other items!! Only possible to do a one hour tour with guide which is sufficient! Afterwards take time to relax in the beautiful gardens!

The Stibbert has the feel of an "amateur hour" museum though everyone clearly has a good heart. I mostly ranked this experience average because of the complete lack of interpretation, at least for anyone who doesn't speak Italian. I'm not sure what others have experienced, because there are references to a guided tour, but what we experienced was 50 minutes of an escort who explained some of the rooms in a few sentences. I have little idea who Stibbert was, and no idea why he slept in a room next to his mother, why he collected thousands of arms and items, or what most of those items were and if any of them were special to him. If you want to see sword after sword after sword and set of armor after set of armor after set of armor, which is definitely a unique experience, they do offer that. And they do point out the robe that Napoleon wore when he was crowned in Italy, and that was pretty cool.
And there's no taking away that while the experience is average, the museum setting is amazing ... for an 8 Euro cab ride, you get out of tourist hell in "downtown" Florence and basically see an Italian version of Hearst Castle with amazing things covering almost every inch on every wall. If you have anyone in the family who loves grand villas, medieval weaponry, old guns, or just the eclectic in life, this place is well worth the visit and time. I hope you get a real tour.

Forget the tourist crowds in Florence. Catch the #4 bus across from the station to Gioia and a short walk to the Stibbert museum. It has 25,000 exhibits from armour to fine china and paintings in the most beautiful setting. We were the only two on a guided tour lasting nearly two hours. It was one of the most amazing museums I have seen anywhere. Do not miss this wonderful treat off the beaten track. Check their web page for details. The gardens are included and are great.

Beautiful, large, overwhelming and very COLD. No heating, wear your winter coats, scarfs and warm socks. I had to stay with a tour, just 3 of us and the guide. The tour took about 90 minutes, I would have condensed it to 60 minutes if I could. Fave collections are the samurai section, cavalcade room, and first 1-2 rooms of paintings and statues. Definately worth a visit, had to take a cab there and back but the fare was reasonable, about 8 euro.
