Owner description: Opulently decorated in marble, gold and jewels, these chapels are a celebration of one of Italy's most famous and powerful families - the Medicis.

These chapels are in complete contrast with each other. The main chapel is a sea of green marble in a relatively small but soaringly high space. The next, smaller chapel is plain and simple with the Medici tombs and the wonderful sculptures by Michelangelo. Well worth the time and the few Euros!

Great museum, but we found we had, by buying the tickets on line (a) paid way over the true ticket price and (b) paid for tickets on a day when entry was actually free! The first sunday in the month entry to many Florence galleries is free.

Beware of florence-tickets.com

we founf we had paid way over the odds at every venue we pre-purchased tickets for

We decided to go in on a last minute whim and I'm very glad we did! There was a small museum and then the mausoleum that is much more magnificent and very different looking to any other church I've seen. My kids even enjoyed that it was different!

The Medici Chapels are truly a gem of beautiful mausoleums made of the most precious marbles in various colors along with grand architecture. Truly jaw dropping. The amazing thing about visiting is not only to see the mausoleums but to see Michaelangelo's sculptures Dusk and Dawn.

A definite visit to discover the history of one of the most powerful and influential families of the Renaissance and to see the tombs of so many of the family heads
